I'm British and i've always felt that Britain and British people are straight-up ignored in videogames and with these crappy release dates we get it always feels like we're just being lumped in with 'the rest of the world'. Hardly any individuality.
Maybe we just are.
Hell! We're even treated badly by are own countries game studios! (i have reason to beleive, correct me if i'm wrong)
So, what do you escapists feel about this? Do you agree or think that perhaps i should stop moaning and just suck it up.
Perhaps i'm delusional.
Please reply. :D

EDIT: please stop hating me...

To be fair, i have never played that game. Are they evil?
And i only said most games, which i've found to be true.
Especially WW2 games.

How are British people in WWII games shown badly, they're usually shown as brave, witty soldiers.

As for Warhammer 40K, well everyone is a bad guy in their own way. The Imperial Guard have good intentions, it's just the way they go about it that can be questionable.

I think the use of the SAS in Modern Warfare was pretty cool. In fairness I can't think of any games where we're portrayed badly, we show up well in all the ones I've played with main characters that are British. All, what, four of them?

It's not that, they're just never shown at all in my experience.
Always the americans.
And just the americans.
With COD being exempt, that had the Russians too!

What about Killzone?
Sure they weren't ACTUALLY British, but they had the accent!
And the ties with Nazi's which i found odd.

Yeah off the top of my head I can't think of many games that have British characters, the CoD series is the easiest but I'm sure there must be plenty of others.

And like I said the Imperial Guard are commonly portrayed in W40K games with British accents.

I've been avoiding Killzone, though I really should get round to it. I think that just followed on from the whole films thing, they've been making bad guys British for years. And to hand it to them, I think Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons did a better job in the Die Hard films than if they'd have got actual Germans to do it.

I kinda of feel sorry for the American audiences, did the developers really think that "Oh well sure it's got all these Nazi ties to it, but we'll give them a British accent, they won't be able to tell the difference." I'd have gone mental by now if I was constantly been treated like some sort of moron.

How many WW2 games have actually had the british feature in though?
I can't even think of one!

Call of Duty 1
Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty: United Offensive
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
Call of Duty 3
Call of Duty: Final Fronts (The PS2 World at War version)

Also in Black Ops during the flashback to WWII the British show up as enemies.

EDIT: I forgot Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts.

ONE SERIES!
That is one series!
And i've also edited the thread just a tad, removing the treated badly bit, because i was only thinking of killzone and black ops at that bit.

I haven't really played any games that treat British people badly. Though I've played plenty of games with British people in them. You know who is REALLY being treated badly in video games? The Russians. Video games always have America fighting Russia for some reason, and of course America wins. The only game I can think of where everyone is equally treated badly is Destroy All Humans.

Oh yeah I forgot, Destroy All Humans! 2 has a level set in England, of course all of the English characters are douches, along with all the American characters, and Russian, and Japanese and all the Furons.

Yeah the Destroy All Humans! series is pretty fair when it comes to bagging everyone.

Also speaking of Pandemic Studios games; Jennifer Mui from Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and Mercenaries 2 is British...and badass, well technically she's Chinese/British but she has a British accent.

Um...is it so unfair if it's also happening to the "rest of the world".

As mentioned last time this came up a few weeks ago, Giants: Citizen Kabuto features a bunch of English space thingies and Scottish aliens. And one French alien.

Precisely.
I only feel it more on britain because i'm british.
But it annoys me that there is America, Japan and then 'the rest'
We all need individual identities as a country, which is why it annoys me when i say i'm from britain and people go 'Oh, you mean europe?'

Well, Britain does happen to be part of Europe. Also, while I can see why that'd be annoying, can you, off the top of your head, list the names and cultural features of every nation in Europe? If not, how can you expect people living on another continent to do so?

Perhaps you should branch out and play a different genre... get something by Creative Assembly, for example (E:TW, N:TW etc.). Too impersonal?

Then, Hellgate (shit game, though it is) is set in the West End.
There's also Resistance: Fall of Man (even if the protagonist is a bloody American, no offence, it's just that almost everyone else is British, and it's set in Britain)

Anyway, about WH40K, everyone's English in that! The bad guys are, the worse guys are and the worst guys are, too.
