So do you think that Thumper has finally been put to some use? Has this thread already been posted? Are you German, if so what is the consensus within your country?

As always your thoughts and opinion please...

Wait until PETA sees this...

Well if it works then I don't have a problem with it. Seems like a good way to both produce power and get rid of an environmentally damaging problem.

Why would it matter if someone was German, this is in Sweden.

OT: i don't really see a problem here, they were killing/culling the rabbits anyway and instead of just dumping the bodies somewhere they get some use out of it. Win-Win

... Why only rabbits?
Seriously. There should be plenty of roadkill and such. Why not use that, too?

But yeah, I don't see how this could be wrong.
It's a decent way of dealing with the corpses, and has the added bonus of producing heat.
They're dead anyway. It's better than just leaving them there to decompose.

Must be a great business for the contractor mentioned. Payed to take way the bunny corpses, and then I'd imagine he turns around and sells them to whoever does the burning.

They still do somewhat, at least here in the Netherlands heat from the furnace at a crematorium is (sometimes) reused to heat the building.

The animals are a nuisance and so they're culled to prevent overpopulation and to protect and preserve wildlife and open spaces. So far so good.

The animal bodies are then burnt to heat homes and generate elctricity. This is also to prevent there being a problem with the disposal of animal waste.

I don't see a problem with that. The animals have to be killed anyway, so the authorities have a choice. Either burn the bodies and let some good come from it, or leave them lying around, causing disease to build up and casuing further problems. Or they could keep the bodies in storage, which would be pointless and simply use up space. I agree with the Stockholm authorities, it's a good idea and Sweden has a good plan there. I honestly can't see anything wrong with that.

While I love bunnies, this gets rid of a pest problem and creates new fuel. So I say this is a good idea.

I love rabbits too, but at least now their carcasses will be useful for something instead of being dumped by the truckload. If someone could convince Australia that kangaroos could be used for the same thing (as kangaroos have to be culled to prevent overpopulation), then we'd be all set for heat production. 8D

They'd be killing the rabbits anyway, and they may as well do something with the remains. You can't really be against this without being against wildlife population control, and that's a whole other... Kettle of fish.

Why German? This article is about Sweden.
But I'll answer anyway. This is the first time I hear about it, but I guess it's okay.
Rabbits procreate at a speed that is unhealthy for the eco-system, so instead of just killing them or letting them starve and then rot, use their bodies for something useful. Why not?
I don't think the cuteness-factor should play into this.

I think that it is a very clever and innovative idea which effectivly kills to birds with one stone.

On the other hand, I quite like little fluffy bunny rabbits.

Since they are going to die anyway, then why not?

Considering the rabbits are going to be killed anyway, this is a very sensible use of their biomass.
