For those of you that have complained on other forums that Call of Duty 4 was a Nade/Helicopter/Airstrike Spamming, Bunny Hopping, Run and Gunning crapfest... there may yet be hope for you, should you be willing to give the game another chance under a different light.

There is a tight-knit community of PC Call of Duty players that go under the title of 'Tactical Realism' They are a mature gathering of players that began with Call of Duty 1, and strove to make the game into something other than the typical Quake/Counter Strike-style FPS play. There are several clans, and a few modders that have created something that could almost be classified as an entirely different program than what you bought.

TR play brings the game down to a much slower level than the fast-paced Nade spam/Bunny hopping action most of you are probably used to. TR is almost exclusively played in Search&Destroy style matches; one life to live, use it wisely. And in most cases, you will want to work tactically with your team in order to achieve your objective..be it attacking or defending. There are also limitations (in some servers) to the amount of weapons each team can field; IE: One sniper, two Spec-Ops, etc etc..this is again to influence the realism of a squad going into combat. You wouldn't HAVE a team of 10 snipers.

But for those looking to try out a new, more tactical, realistic style of FPS - And owners of the PC version of Call of Duty 4 should seriously give Tactical realism a chance. It may just breathe life into a game you'd thought you wasted the money on. Perhaps not, though. But you'll never know until you try.

I personally am a member of one of these clans - and our mod is hailed by others as the best TR mod out there, our primary server IP is 69.28.220.171:28960 You will have a bit of downloading to do - Each new map, as well as the mod itself. (Occasionally players will get disconnected upon downloading of a new map, if this is the case - just reconnect) And if you have any questions you can always ask any of the members in the server, join us on Teamspeak, or Xfire one of us. You can send me a personal message to get my Xfire, or the Teamspeak information, as I don't want to risk moderator wrath by posting it here in the main thread. (Not sure if that's against the rules here, or not. So; better safe than sorry)

The following is a list of the enforced/administrated rules that get rid of a lot of the complaints I've seen;

1) No racism or profanity of any kind.
2) No abusive language or any other kind of rude behaviour.
3) No offensive names.
4) No argueing with admins. If you don't like the rules then leave.
5) No advertising, spamming, or recruiting (this includes XFire?s)
6) Teamkilling ? Do not fire intentionally at teammates or within 10 seconds of spawning. (always apologize in all chat)
7) Exploits ? Do not use exploits or graphic flaws in the maps to gain an advantage.
8) Run and Gun ? You must use sights at all times when shooting your weapon.
9) Bunny hopping ? Do not jump to avoid enemy fire or use the ?jump shot? tactic (e.g. jumping around corners, or over claymores)
10) Unrealistic jumps ? Do not jump from unrealistic heights to a point where your character takes damage.
11) Ledging ? Do not stand on ledges or objects that make you appear to be floating on air.
12) Nade Spam ? Do not throw grenades/stuns/flashes/c4/RPGs over buildings or into areas you have not seen, heard, or been told of and enemy position ? Room clearing is OK.
13) Wall Spam - Do not fire your weapon into a building without confirmation from sound/sight/friendly com chatter
14) Press shift + ~ to open the full console and scroll down with page down if needed to read spammed rules or missed chat messages from other players.
15) In all chat type !register then !help for all available commands or !r for rules.

If you don't understand a rule ask a .:|BC|:. member for support.
These rules apply to all our tactical realism servers. B3 (big brother bot) is installed on all server to monitor and admin our servers.

A feature-list of the TR mod that belongs to my clan can be found here:

EDIT: Apologies for grammar/spelling...I quite literally just got home from a 3 hours drive about twenty minutes ago, my fingers are numb.

Couldn't you just play a different game?
I'm sure you could. But this is for people that have the game, don't like the Halo/CS/Quake-esque style of play, and don't have the money/feel like purchasing another game.

It's a tactical spin on a game they already own. That's the point - You don't have to spend any more money.

I guess... I don't know it seem likes a lot of effort to just limit what you can do.

Not really - You just go to a new server, and download the mod/maps. Then there's some rules to follow. Other than that, we've opened up a lot of new opportunities. So it's not just saying "You can't randomly toss nades" We've got bandaging, the ability to disarm clays, rappel ropes, and soon we'll have pilotable helicopters that you fly yourself, and your teammates can shoot - rather than that stupid AIMBOT computer heli, and a few other things.
