Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, should I get it?

I'm not all too into FPS games, that only one I play right now is "Verdun" and I am marginally a PC gamer (albeit my computer is mediocre). The last COD game I had was MW3 and it was fun for a bit, I really liked survival mode; my favorite COD multiplayer was WaW and I've had everyone up to MW3.
I like games like this on console and was surprised to see that I could get it on my 360. I have a slim elite 360 with like 250GB or something like that. So I buy a hard copy or download it off the store? Can I get bonus things if I run to my Gamestop? Is there a downside to it being digital insofar as I need codes that come with the hard copy?
I like games like this as I like getting the guns, making a class and things like that. I want something mindless for when I'm not playing Vic 2 or Crusader Kings 2.

If you aren't into fps games that much no. I haven't played a cod since Black Ops, I'd say that Call of Duty is more for hardcore FPS nuts who will happily spend hundreds of hours perfecting their twitch skills in multiplayer. Single player these days is just for training to multiplayer in a COD.

Advanced Warfare is a peculiar game. The campaign is made of awesome and is ridiculously over the top and sheer fun that it makes up for the weaker missions which go back to formula. Think of it like Titanfall but with actual content in the game, and punching people in the face after diving through the air never loses it's charm. Some of the set pieces are something to expect in a Bayonetta game like when you're jumping across buses on a motorway before slamming somebody into a pole while blowing up cars with three bullets. Or doing a stealth missions and having the "stealth/silent" kill be throwing a grappel hook at somebody throat and dragging them back to the bushes.

If you liked Survival in MW3 (I didn't), it's pretty much unchanged except you have the EXO suit.

Multiplayer is basically just like MW3: horrifically unbalanced with terrible map design, but the sheer awfulness of it gives it a so-bad-it's-good quality and it's good fun (though avoid objective based game modes).

Advanced Warfare is such a triumph that I can't believe how "meh" the critical response to it was. Then again, critics called MW3 a better game than Black Ops II so what do they know?

If you're not much into FPSs, then you might as well wait to pick up a cheap used copy (I know that GameStop was doing a sale on it, but I think that's over at this point).

While on that note,

Mr. Baker was a bit proud of the whole writing a swear thing, and he thought that it was insane that my boss wanted me to get rid of the lanyard because it was 'old' ("Old?! That game came out two months ago!"[footnote]It hasn't even been a month yet, but that was his words, not mine.[/footnote]).

Personally, no. The Xbox 360 port is pretty cut down visually. It's NOT going to look like the screenshots you see around. And IMO, Advanced Warfare is not a particularly good SP FPS game. (It does have decent MP, netcode issues aside.) Black Ops/Black Ops II/Ghosts are vastly superior games.

I'm approaching this from a singleplayer perspective, though.

I actually just finished playing through the single player a few minutes ago.

There's a really good game hiding in there, but it's mostly covered up by the old "hallway full of bad guys and chest-high walls, shoot until it's empty" design they've been doing forever. The different mobility systems and power ups are given to you and taken away arbitrarily throughout the story, which is annoying.

There's one glorious, 15-minute mission near the end where the level design finally opens up, and you get to use all your toys at once, and it's amazing. I was double jumping and grappling through the air, slamming dudes in the face, sliding past mecha suits and yanking the pilot out with my grappling hook. Awesome shit.

But besides that bit, it's the same old stuff. Oh, Kevin Spacey's kinda cool, I guess.

Eh, it's just like every other COD game. If you enjoy them then go for it, if not then spend your money on something different.
