So after infinity Ward makes Modern Warfare 3(from what im guessing and what lots of people are guessing.) most likely they would probaly turn to somewhat of future warfare becuase of the market to be flooded with modern warfare esque titles.

What do you think they will do for future warfare?

Do it kinda like battlefield: 2142, with lots of future like gear and weapons but still on a single planet or go really far fetch and go to the extent of fighting on other worlds..? Or only a little bit into the future?

I could be wrong and they could do more modern warfares or go back to WW2, this is all a guess.

No, absoulutely not, all of my friends say they like the WW2 better than Modern Warfare, so that means it sells more. And the whole thing would ruin CoD. Its not Star Wars or Mass Effect.

Why would they most likely turn to that? Sure, it's a possibility, but it doesn't have too.

Technically, Modern Warfare 2 already is in the future anyway.

I think, if it didn't totally suck, a futuristic COD title would be absolutely frickin awesome. In my mind there's about a 50/50 chance that it would be good. Infinity ward can pull it off.

They won't risk losing buyers who despise future-like warfare. They'll prolly take a subtle 10-20 years into the future, something in the lines of GRAW.

If so, they probably won't call it Call of Duty.

Also, Split up your sentences a bit. Having your post all squashed together makes it kinda hard to read.

As long as the military in Infinity Ward's future have FINALLY ditched cased bullets, I'd have nothing against a futuristic MW game.

Everything from Halo to GoW to whatever in the future, most if not all the human weapons could have come from now or even 20 years ago. It would be nice to see a game with a reasonable estimation of infantry combat in the future, but that's impossible, so I'd settle for at least somewhat scientifically accurate.

I'd like to see something along the lines of future warfare just so I can pretend I'm in Starship Troopers. I'd love for them to make something futuristic and reference all the great sci-fi novels that space marines thrive in.

...at the same time thumbing their nose at Halo, not that I have anything against the series. (I can hear it now, your grizzled sergeant in the trenches on some miserable uninhabitable planet having a quip along the lines of "why can't they just send that one super soldier we have here to take care of this for us?)

...I'm sorry I don't know what came over me, that was quite the digression

What? The Modern Warfare games have outsold the rest of the CoD franchise by a considerable margin, I don't know where you're getting this at all.

I also feel like IW would be more likely to revisit less commonly seen but still historical settings such as Korea, Vietnam, or 1980s Afghanistan. This is all idle speculation, however. None of us have any way of knowing.

Then why are there only 2 MW-s and 4 WW2 games.

Honestly, I can't really say what Infinity Ward would do next. The way they ended Modern Warfare 2, they are basically throwing it in our faces that there will be at least one more, just so they can finish the story they've put together. After that, though? There's a lot of options for them.

They could go to Vietnam. The only reasonably successful game that I've seen set there has been Battlefield Vietnam, so it's a bit of an untapped era (if not a bit touchy for Americans), at least for gaming.

Or they might go back and do another WWII game. Maybe set some missions in the Italian theater of the war, or something. Hell, I'd be downright overjoyed if they did another take on what they did in United Offensive. A Bastogne battle using the graphics and engines that they use in Modern Warfare 2? I'm pretty sure that would require an extra change of pants to be at hand.

Or, like you said, they might do a futuristic game. It would be really interesting to see what Infinity Ward could do if they created a completely original setting and story, instead of just playing off of real-world events. I would love to see what they could come up with, creatively. I mean, the gameplay mechanics are already polished, and we know that they can create amazing set-pieces. All they have to do is transpose that into an original setting and they'd be golden.

Honestly, though, I can't see them doing anything beyond a near-future setting. Something within the foreseeable future, I mean. I can't really see Infinity Ward doing anything set in space, or something like that. Not that they don't have the means or ingenuity to do so, just that it's not their MO. Still, it would be awesome to see.

As far as I can tell, IW strives to walk the line between plausible reality and fiction. Therefore, if they want to make a kind of future warfare title, they're going to need A TON of research into what a battlefield would likely look like in however-many years. It seem that, at least as far as the US is concerned, that means fewer troops on the ground, which could defeat the whole concept of playing as a soldier. I mean, how much longer are actual infantry going to be an integral part of the military? Anything beyond 10-20 years and the game loses plausibility and playability.
