Can a Bioware style RPG be successful with the Nintendo audience?

Bioware used to be known to create games with interesting lore and characters. Stuff like the ME3 ending and MEA development have tarnished their name.

CD Projekt Red has taken up their mantle as the premiere developer of WRPGs.

Should Bioware or some other developer bring an interesting universe, good story, and compelling characters to a wider audience?

Would the art style have to be cartoony?

Would it have to be shorter and easier than hardcore RPGs such as The Witcher? Honestly I just play for the story. I see no shame in easy mode. I loved Garrus!

Would the protagonists have to be young? Either in High School or College? Fresh out of college and recruited by government organization?

What about the setting? Modern with sci fi and/or fantasy elements? Superhero? Espionage?

Can a Bioware or Bioware style RPG game be successful with the Nintendo audience?

You know people who play Nintendo games, i.e. the Nintendo audience, most likely play more than just Nintendo games right?

On the subject of the "Nintendo audience," I think it's miscontrusing the point. On one hand, people who play Nintendo games can play non-Nintendo games. On the other, Nintendo's got a family brand that they stick to, with only a few exceptions. So in terms of aesthetic and content, no, you're never going to have Nintendo develop something like the Witcher.

But that said:

Because, y'know, only BioWare and CD do those things.

If Nintendo was developing it, then yes, it would likely be cartoony to some extent. Every Nintendo IP I can thin of off the top of my head has a colourful aesthetic.

No. Nintendo isn't without its in-house RPGs (Xenoblade, Golden Sun, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, etc.). There's plenty of overlap between Nintendo and RPGs. Now, you can say that they're JRPGs, but of the difference between JRPGs and WRPGs, difficulty has never been among them.

Would the protagonists have to be young? Either in High School or College? Fresh out of college and recruited by government organization?
Debatable. The characters in the RPGs I mentioned have a variance of age ranges.

Well, as a Biodrone, I consider the Fire Emblem series to be as close to similarities to a Bioware RPG, while also having things like a cartoon artstyle and romance interests.

While I'd say the similarities are stretching it, I figure if Nintendo was ever to make a game like the Witcher in a pre-existing IP, Fire Emblem would make sense. Each setting usually has various nations with competing political goals, and if they go with Tellius (or something similar), they can throw in racial prejudice as well.

Course it's unlikely to happen. :(

Woah! CaptBadFaith is an a roll, isn't he?

OT: Persona 4 and 5 say "yes". You can take that route and push it even farther with less cliche writing.

I think that if they sold the Mass Effect trilogy on the Switch (I have no idea if they would be able to do so with licensing and whatnot) it would sell very well.

But that's just my guess.

I don't think licensing would be a problem. Why? Mass Effect 3 was released on the Wii U (I even have a physical copy of it on my shelf).

Smash Bros quest. I want to play as Samus and romance Link. Adult Link, because I know I need to specify.

I just didn't know what situation existed for 1 and 2.
I think that if there were a definitive release (with all the DLC) for the Mass Effect trilogy, it would have buyers, regardless of the console.

Depends on what you consider the Nintendo audience.
I was actually about to ask this. What's the nintendo audience? I like Pokemon, but don't like Mario...do I count?

ME1 was published by Microsoft. It's off-limits, unless the deal expired or someone wants to negotiate. Microsoft doesn't seem to care about the Xbox anyway, so mayhbe they'd deal. Otherwise, though, it's out of bounds. But ME2 is fine.

It know that you can get ME1 for the Playstation. I don't know what deal was made in regards to that.

Originally. But later Bioware got bought by EA, and they have already released it for the PS3 in the Mass Effect Trilogy. It's EA's MO what makes me skeptical of ever seeing a Switch version.

As long as it's a good one and not what they gave us with that Sonic RPG, sure, I think Nintendo fans would enjoy a good bioware game.

Assuming bioware is alive enough to make a good bioware game anymore. :(

Some sort of deal must have been reached, because the publisher rights didn't go away when EA bought them. IIRC, Bioare even commented to that effect at the time, because everyone was all can haz me1 plz?

But it's good to know it has been done. I must have missed it.
