Hello friends,

So in last generation Crysis games after original didnot work and they become dumded down linear games. however it was mostly because last gen was full of linear COD clones. and every developer want to make FPS like COD.

in this gen, most of games went open world (which may not a good thing) but if we see other ambitious projects that are open world or sandbox i mean take a look at Metro Exodus. its doing what Crysis 1 did it in 2007 but even on bigger scale. Sandbox FPS game with best graphics and weapon customization. but even now with great story and characters which is plus.

another ambitious project is cyberpunk 2077 which i may not impressed by it but its ambitious project i can say.

so the point is. if Crytek put some effort. they can bring Crysis 4 back to its roots. they are pioneer in sandbox FPS games overall. if other developers can do it exact same things. why cant Crytek?

so the question is, do you think Crysis 4 can work in this generation if Crytek put some effort into it. Yes they can reboot Crysis 4 as sandbox game that can push PC graphic to limit. thats what 4A is doing with Metro. if 4A can do why cant Crytek??

Lets Discus

First: are the developers responsible for the original Crysis still in the company? (or anyone who may at least know who to make a sandbox FPS properly?)

Second: if we are so full of open world games, what would separate Crysis 4 from the rest if it just went back to its roots? Like, what kind of roots are you talking about? What uniqueness do you expect from it besides the brand name?

Don't remind me about Crysis. I can't get Crysis 3 on Origin to run on my PC. Everytime I press play, it refuses to launch.

I have no idea why some games on this fucking client refuses to launch. I can't get Mass Effect 2 to launch on Origin, but can on Steam :p

Oringal Crysis was far more like a mission in Deus Ex (any). You'd have an end point but had many multiple options to complete it. It was linear but the line was wide to encourage your playstyle.

Open World is something totally different. You can't craft these multiple ways of completing an objective. Or you'd have to have a seperate area for a mission. It would probably end up like Deus Ex (which is not a bad thing)

Crysis 2 was dreadful. I loved Crysis (and to a lesser extent, Warhead), but 2 was turned from the brilliance of Crysis into the dumb inanity of CoD, toned down and made easy-mode for console players and mass market appeal. It had all the stay frosties, check your sixes, bravo teams and clear the lzees that a CoD player could ever ask for. It was utterly disappointing and the trend continued in Crysis 3 whose main innovation was giving a high-tech suit wearing, alien-battling warrior a bow and arrows. Crysis 3 was so bad I had to stop playing it.

Here is one of, if not the first ever screenshot I took on Steam, it was of Crysis 2 and to me, the ultimate sum-up of the game:

That is what Crysis became under EA. That image shows you the audience the game was made for. That was what they put in the place of all the great gameplay from 1. I think the franchise is best left at this point. It peaked with it's first entry and the trajectory has been sharply downward since. A Crysis 4 published today by EA would be as bad or worse than 2 and 3, with the addition of microtransactions and lootcrates. Let Crytek come up with something new and innovative without EA.

It's trying to spare you. Crysis 3 is awful and you'd have more fun watching the download bar as it installs than actually playing it.

No I found Crysis 3 an actually good game and the hate spouted agianst it is bullshit.

I beat the game once and on Origin before, but for some baffling reason it won't launch now.

We're talking about Crysis 3 here? The same game? C-R-Y-S-I-S then a space and then the number 3? Because you used the words "good game" in the same sentence so I'm sure we must be getting games mixed up.

And Crysis 3 is the best stealh-action game made since forever. Level design that surpasses Crysis 2.

Crysis 3 is easily worst in series. only Crysis game i never finished. I quite enjoyed 2. it was ok but very dumbed down and consolized.

I don't know if this thing is even working. Hello!? Sam!? We're talking about Crysis 3. Crysis! Like the word Crisis but with a Y. Let me try slower and louder, like i'm a tourist abroad....CCCCRRRRRRYYYYYSSSSIIIIIIIISS 3.

It's with CRY, like boo hoo, tears I'm really upset, like "Oh, I hurt my knee so I'm CRYing". Cry, like that. Then SIS, like short for your sister "This is my older sis, she's really great." S-I-S, sis. Crrrryyyyysis. Then it has the number three after, like one more than two and one less than four. The number is three and three is the number thou shalt count. Crysis 3. CRYYYYYYSIS. 3. Tres. Numero tres. Trois. Shalosh. Drei.

Guys, if anyone else reads this, I think Sam is having problems with his machine and isn't able to see these messages correctly. He's talking about a completely different game, I think he thinks he's in a different thread where we're talking about a good game instead of Crysis 3. Could someone let him know we're talking about Crysis 3 and he should check his computer is working correctly? Thanks.

Hah, that's a trick because no one's PC could run Crysis 1. It was the literal definition of "ahead of its time"; no machine of the day could run it maxed @ 60fps. Even the IBM engineers who made Big Blue took a look and went "Daaammmmmn."

... You can design any given part of an open world to have whatever alternate approaches you want, really.

It might be a little budget intense to try and do it on stuff splattered across the map by the hundreds, but that's not inherent to open world games. Even the stereotypical outposts of Far Cry or AC tended to have obviously designed alternate approaches pop up in quite a few of them..

Whether there was much valid reason to take those approaches was certainly questionable, but its not like they weren't there.

Setting aside the issue of EA, I don't think Crytek is in a position to be making a new Crysis after absolutely shitting the bed by opening studios all over the world, accomplishing absolutely fuck all for years and then closing most of those studios. At this point I'm doubtful any of the original developers are still around.

Crysis to me was never a true sandbox. It was ultimately still a linear game, but with freedom of approach. Game would tell you to get to point B, but won't hold your hand all the way. It has elements of a sandbox, but never one really and never had all the stupid nonsense that comes with them - stupid side activities/collectibles completely removed from the main campaign but is there because. You are still urged towards the objective at the end of the day and the world isn't built to distract you with a metric ton of nonsense.

Crysis 2 and 3 still had a bit of that spirit, but they added the whole mark important shit with tactical visor cause they were afraid players are absolute retards. But you could always just ignore all that nonsense and roam about as you saw fit, and there was definitely some room for it - at least compared to a CoD game.

In many respects, it is a design style quite similar to the Halo games. Well I can't speak for 4 onwards, but 1 to Reach always had a fair bit of wiggle room per level for you to wander about, look for extra rocket launchers, backtrack for vehicles and such.

But setting aside the issue of semantics, has there been a prominent single player FPS this year? I'm choosing to ignore Battlefield that comes out next month and the latest Cowadooty doesn't even have a single player. It definitely feels like it was a busier genre back in the day. I think Far Cry 5 is all we got?

I'd definitely like to see a resurgence in the genre, Crysis or no.

you can play RDR2 in FPS mode. otherwise this year there is none. next year theres Doom Eternal, Metro Exodus and RAGE 2 and these 3 games will make the year 2019.
