We always see these guys in games, who have cool super moves, like Hadoken or a summoning move, but when you win the game, then what? What can these people do with theyre powers, if not hack people to pieces?

Play Legaia 2. Yeah, it sucks, but it answers your question on how summons are used practically.(use them to smash rocks in your path, make light, grow plants,etc...)
As for things such as hadouken, they can make pretty big bon fires. =)

The real question is: What wouldn't you do with those powers?

I'd use them ever chance I get, even if they weren't appropriate or helpful to the current situation. It'd be a waste not to. :p

Practical, eh? Well, if you ask me, E. Honda could play a mean game of tag...

I thought the entire point of these supermoves was for use in combat. I mean we don't use guns for anything nonviolent, do we? We use them for warfare, self-defence, crimes and hunting.
All these supermoves can probably be used for all that too.

Well Dhalsim doesn't need his remote, and he doesn't have to get out of his recliner to answer the door.

Blanka is useful to have around if you need to jump start your car.

Scorpion is great at spear fishing and every one of Sub-Zero's beers is a cold one.

Let's not forget opening jars! Tell me that there hasn't been a point in your life where you met a jar you couldn't open and wish you didn't have super strength stats to force it open.

I am ashamed to say that would probably work on me, you would of course ave to back it up with actual Hadouken though!
If I had a summoning move, I would summon cake, I am hungry.

Retaliation warrior "super" move: Whenever someone brushes past you or taps you, you punch them full force in the face.

Shoryuken: I can't...quite...reach! SHORYUKEN!, also useful for Basketball.

I knew I liked Sub Zero for a reason.
