I've heard so much praise for this game across the net and I loved Bioshock so I figured I would pick this up. This will be my first real PC game, which explains my complete lack of knowledge on how to install it. I know nothing about computers. I'm trying to run it on an Acer laptop with 2 GB of RAM and an Intel Pentium Dual processor on a 32 bit Vista operating system.

I put in the disc and this little window comes up with 2 options, Run panel.exe or Open Folder to view files. I clicked on the first one and another window comes up. I click install on this one and it loads for a few second, then nothing happens. I tried opening the folder to view files and I had no idea what was doing. I really don't know what to do at this point. I've browsed around the net a bit but I couldn't find any good help.

I'm hoping someone can help me. I really want to play this game!

Downlaod it (if you know a good source).

You bought a game, and it doesnt work. Seems fair to me.

Or try browsing the disk files and starting setup.exe

If you go through the system folders look for setup.exe. Click on that and follow the instructions.

Systemshock 2 doesnt work very well with dual core processores and it runs sometimes into problems with Vista by the way.

Also when the game starts to work do this:

Load the game, alt tab out, ctrl alt del, processes tab, select SHOCK2.EXE, right click and go to set affinity, untick either cpu 1 or cpu 0.

SS2 doesnt support Dual Core, so you might run into problems.

It's a bit of a nightmare to run on Vista apparently. I found it quite fiddly initially on my quad core XP machine. You probably should have chosen a better introduction to PC gaming, given System Shock 2's supposed difficulty.

Is it easier if I download it? I would agree that since I already bought it it would be okay to download. Where could I get it?
