So dubstep. I don't see why it gets the massive appeal it gets. I don't hate it, in fact I am a fan of electronica music. It's just... what's so great about it? I don't see anything special. So if you do, please tell me why you like/love dubstep.

It has a shit ton of bass, and is really fun to listen to at full volume. That and it actually sounds pretty cool.

But that's it, it's just bassy and awesome at high volume. Nothing much to it.

Mostly, it's Wob.

And it might have something to do with the fact that NOT EVERYONE IS YOU AND THEY HAVE DIFFERENT BLOODY LIKES AND DISLIKES.

Personally, it appeals to me. I enjoy listening to it. It's difficult to explain why you like a type music. It's just something that satisfies you when you listen to it.

Some people like powerful music. Its kind of the same philosophy as hard rock or metal. Dubstep is just the newest form of core shaking bass distortion. Here listen to this and if you don't get this you wont get dubstep because this is as good as it gets

I don't either, to be honest.
I enjoy electronic music and techno like, say The Prodigy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVefPPr69NU] but that's about as far as my liking goes other than the soothing stuff I like akin to Aphex Twin [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nevnq7MvVTI] but I don't get Dubstep at all.
Some of the really early, early dubstep from the 90s in the London underground scene was decent enough since it had roots in melody and industrial music but the new shit that teenagers like (I for some reason say as if I'm not a teenager), I just don't get.
What the fuck is so good about this? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F21aifX0lZY] I mean, I get that it's another new form of music but... this doesn't make any sense to me why someone would willingly listen to that unless it was used for torture <.<
It's just a bunch of obnoxious noises with zero melody or even much thought put into it. Just sounds like someone threw a bunch of really loud factory noises through a synthesizer.
Sorry if anyone else likes it but... that shit sucks to my ears. >.>

Yea, that one is great, and here's another that if you don't like, dubstep probably isn't for you:

Well, pretty much its because they like the amazing amount of bass, as far as I know. I personally hate it because it doesn't seem to do anything new in each song, its just the same stuff over and over again.

Whenever I see threads like this I can't help but sigh. Since when is "People have different tastes" not a good enough answer?

This is the appeal:

(It's a tribal bass)

I'm not really big on it, but I understand some of the appeal it has.

I don't really like dubstep. It sort of reminds me of that South Park episode...

Some of the electronic stuff isn't bad but I don't like all the distortion.

Yeah, also for me it makes me think of parties, and parties are fun. I just really like the energy of it.

I like it because of the unique sounds it creates that you don't hear from traditional instruments. Also it is really great to listen to while gaming or driving.

Disclaimer: My Opinion. I have different taste in music to you.

I do not like it. Not one bit. I think it sounds like a hippo rolling around on a synthesiser underwater. I also sigh when people say "OMG this dubstep is sooo dirty". It's not dirty, it's electronic sounds. My carpet is dirty.

I guesssss it would make okay club music, where you don't want to hear what anyone is saying, and you don't want your earballs to last too long, but that's so entirely not my scene.

This, and I'm just a Cat Empire kind of guy.

Not much of a fan of the Skrillex song, but that second one is pretty fun. Sometimes those kinds of sounds grate on me after a while, but if used well, you can pull off some pretty cool effects with them.

I've always found dubstep to be pretty hit or miss for me, but I think that's at least partly because there seems to be some disagreement about what it actually is. I kind of got used to it being the really early stuff from ten years ago (because I'm old), which I could never really get into, and then I mostly forgot about it for a while. Then all of a sudden it became hugely popular recently, but in a somewhat different form that it's evolved into over time, and even now different people sometimes call different kinds of things dubstep, with only some of the broader characteristics always staying in common between the varying definitions. Hooray for subjective classification!

dubstep explained: put long drawn out bass lines over some form of weak melody attach that to a subwoofer and some mega speakers, sit back and enjoy everyone hating you. or blow out your eardrums listening to it through earbuds, it's just bass for the sake of using bass. There's not much more else to say about it

This is the best dubstep song I've ever heard and I think it deserves far more recognition than it has. If you don't like dubstep, maybe you'd like this song. It doesn't really have the standard WUBWUBWUB but it definitely still packs a punch.

Eh, dubstep is sort of comme ci comme ça for me. A lot of it starts to grate on me after a while, though I enjoy it at parties. I just can't imagine listening to it while doing anything besides partying (and perhaps operating heavy machinery). It's justified as "everybody freak out" party music, but it's physically impossible for me to just sit down and listen to it for more than a couple minutes.

That being said, I've been told that James Blake qualifies as dubstep, and I think James Blake is brilliant.
