Can you identify this NES game?

I have played this game last in the very early 90's, and I can't remember it's name. Mr. Google could not help me, but I hope that someone in here might know the name of this game.
The game is a side scrolling platformer game. Your character is a young boy, and your weapon is a football (or multiple if you get the boost items). The game played on the basic walk to right, jump over obstacles, kick balls at enemies and so forth. My memory is very hazy on this, but I would like to try the game again. It is at least on NES, not sure about any ports or such.
Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately it was not soccer kid. I should try looking through wikipedia next.

EDIT. I'm not 100% the balls he kicked were really footballs, or just some other spherical objects.

Kind of sounds like "A Boy and his Blob".

I know it's not a football, but it does look like a ball, and you use it to eliminate enemies, etc.

Was the main character blonde? It might be the game based on that old football cartoon.
