I thought it was Kindred by Dean Koontz, but a search reveals a novel called Kindred with a plot that doesn't match, and Koontz doesn't have this title in his bibliography.

I think it was written in the 80s, the story was about a couple that is trying to conceive and goes in for experimental fertility drugs. They have a child that is blond/blue-eyed which matches neither of them. The boy grows up super intelligent and starts conducting his own research in secret and is pretty much a psychopath mad scientist. The father gets the best of him in the end and kills him, but in the end he had already cloned himself and artificially impregnated 23 local girls with his siblings and a year later are showing signs of hyper intelligence as infants. You can see it in their eyes or some such weirdness.

Does this sound familiar? I remember the kids feeling vaguely familiar to the Village of the Damned. That's what it seemed like the protagonists were trying to prevent

Sounds vaguely like Mutation by Robin Cook. The ending might be a bit different, though, by my recollection. Dad and son both die and there's only one other genius baby left.

It does seem familiar, but mostly because it sounds like a Midwich Cuckoos (AKA Village of the Damned) rip off.

Midwich is a slightly different plot, although it's worth reading anyway. One of my personal favourite sci-fi/horror stories.
