Bah, why do the Japanese always seem to think that they need to be more western? Is that just an excuse for if the game get low sales?
^Pretty much.

I thought it was pretty good but I must have missed the "Japanese" part of the equation. Did you run around as a malnourished, androgynous, poorly clothed child carrying a massive sword to compensate for the gamer to not know weather he is playing as a boy or a topless girl with square breasts? No. That's why its one of the few games that comes out of japan

Now, I'm not insulting you, since I don't know you, but you have to admit that we're a pretty closed off country.

Granted it's a bit trickier to leave the US than say, making a trip from, eh I dunno, lets go with Germany to France. Pretty much every travel option starts with going over very large bodies of water, unless you want to go to Mexico or Canada. Also, the US is big.

We've got a great deal of space and a lot of things in it. Sure, we're missing some grandiose scenery from other parts of the world, and the people here, especially in the old confed states wear their stereotypes proudly, but in the end there's enough to offer to not warrant visiting other countries, unless you're a history buff. Me personally, I'm planning a trip to have a look at the Great Pyramids with my own eyes, and Angkor Wat...maybe Himeji Castle, etc. Nothing beats actually being able to touch history, rather'n just seeing it in a book.

Sounds like a big whiny excuse for poor sales to me.

Pretty much the only thing very Japanese about it was the dialog, which was just odd at times.

That and the freaking difficulty curve, at least for some of the achievements.

I hope this doesnt ruin Dead rising 2. If they completely change the game from the first one im gonna lose even more hope in the gaming industry

I never played it, but it looked quite a bit like DMC to me. I mean: one man swinging stuff around killing dozens of zombies at once...
Still, I'm not sure that means it's "too Japanese".

I see what they are saying, although it is a bit difficult to quantify just how exactly.
For one I think it was a terrible idea to mix Pokemon Snap with Dawn of the Dead. That could be the first japanese idea that works against the game. The steep difficulty curve could be another example. The manner in which you had to rescue people. And the gun controls were terrible. Granted I've played some western games where the guns are worthless but I find it to be a more prevalent trend in japanese games.

I played the demo for Dead Rising 2 at WonderCon and I thought it played much better. Whereas the premise of the first game got me excited, the actual gameplay of the second has me more so.

Makes me remember I'm on the internet.

The game did have a Japanese feeling to it. The dialog, the characters, the story...all very eastern. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's true. I didn't know Capcom made it when I tried the demo, but I knew it was a Japanese company right away. Once I saw it was Capcom, it just made sense.

We'll see how this works with number 2!
So long as I still get to kill hordes of undead with park benches, I'm sure I won't be unhappy.
Stupid question here but how exactly was it eastern in terms of dialog and characters and the story? I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, I just don't follow.

It's hard to explain. But the Dialog was very 'Japanese'. As someone who has watched his share of anime, and played enough JRPGs, it's pretty easy to spot translated from Japanese dialog. The Characters...well it was a combination of dialog and animations. Certain 'poses' are very, very Japanese. And the story...well, it just struck me as eastern. The love interest, the bad-guy who isn't fully a bad-guy...it all just said to me: Japanese.

Again, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying I could notice it very easily.

Dead Rising was excellent save for one thing: the shooting controls. Oh god, those were terrible...

But the Japanese influence on the rest of the game was pretty positive.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the cutscenes. Yeah, those were a little wonky too at times, what with the painfully long pauses that scream I AM AN IMPORTED GAME. The story was good though!

What... but... how?

I'm sorry, but I didn't really see anything overly "Japanese" in this game at all. What exactly is this feeling of a western game they're describing here anyway? Is the cartoony silliness " Japanese"? In that case, Saints Row 2 is too " Japanese" too.

I'm completely lost with this comment from Capcom, but at the same time I'm afraid that Dead Rising 2 might not become the game I was hoping for (like Dead Rising 1 but bigger and better) if this is the kind of problem they thought the first one had. The only problem the first game had was its control scheme and even that I could live with.
Agreed, if i didn't know any better and had to guess where it was made i would of said America....

Like many here i found its quirkyness one of if not its biggest appeals but not once did i ever find it at all foreign.

LOL

OT, it did feel "Japanese" to me. The dialog I think is what did it for me.

Person A: (say something)
Person B: (grunt and gasp for 5 seconds then say something)
Person A: (rinse repeat)

I just don't find that good dialog. It's why I played Final Fantasy 13 for a whole 2 hours before putting it down. With all the grunting and gasping Japanese dialog can sound almost like a porno if you walk in the room at the wrong time.

I still found Dead Rising to be a lot of fun, don't get me wrong, but I can honestly see where Capcom is coming from. In the end, it comes down to sales. If they can increase sales by making it more "Western", then they will do just that. It's sad to think of companies selling out to the highest bidder (in this case Western civilization), but in the end, it's all about how much money you have in your pockets, not how original your title was (think Mirror's Edge).

I never said it didn't have a Japanese feel. Most other countries think that Americans can't relate to things that aren't American, like we're in our own bubble. And the sad part is that they're mostly correct. (Freedom fries?) So I'm saying the game is going to be stripped of some of its uniqueness because of those overpatriotic people who try to build up the States and demonize other countries. (i.e. Republicans)

EDIT: AAAAAND, I'm on probation for saying that some of the people in my own country are intolerant, pretty much proving my point right there.
you make no sense whatsoever, read the rules pal, bashing people in general more offen then not ends up in probation, if not worse

OT: Great... take a idea that works and screw it up, why not.
Nice spelling. I've already repeated this in another post, I'm not going to do it again for someone who can't spell "sense."
look at your qoute, i think i spelled it right.
Yeah, because you edited it, and let's also not ignore the fact that you just misspelled "quote".
have fun here while you can, and im trying to warn you here, you keep stuff like this up and you will probley get banned.
Nice comeback. And last I checked, correcting the spelling of someone insulting my intelligence isn't ban worthy. Nice try.
When did i insult your intelligence anyway? and that wasent a comeback, it was advice.

See, there's also the inaccuracy of your original statement, though. If this thread proves anything, it's that Americans didn't give two shits about Dead Rising being "too Japanese".
at least someone saw my point, thanks. :)

Just like Faith from Mirrors Edge wasn't "Asian looking" enough? I would get mad at the people who think this, but instead I'll get mad at the real problem: xenophobic assholes who make these statements accurate.

Her front teeth were not nearly big enough.
(i keed, i keed)
People just can't see an asian person looking American I guess. They will miss out on a lot of really cool people in their lives.

I hope they keep the servbot helmets those were awesome. My only regret was that there weren't enough to make a proper army of servzombies.
Seriously the only thing I had a problem with was the dodgy controls and super fast unreadable messages.
