What about anything that punishes people for being poor, in the wrong place at the wrong time, or historically disenfranchised?

I would ask the Mods to move this thread to the Religion/Politics section because usually economic practices are "discussed" there.(Not very civil at times though so be careful)

OT: Somewhat, I don't like all the values that are in it, but I like some. Pretty much I like a mix of both Capitalism and Socialism for economic practices.

Yup. That about sums it up: Capitalism is "Only the strong survive" and "Work for and earn your money". That's the way it should be.

Alright, that makes me sound like a dick. What I mean is that, when done correctly, capitalism works and is a nice way to create jobs/ produce goods at the same time. Sometimes it doesn't work. I admit that I was wrong. I apologize for over-simplifying things so much.

Meh. Capitalism places more value on money than on human beings and encourages the abuse of the have-nots by the haves. Full-on capitalism is where the whole concept of "the rich get richer while the poor get poorer" comes to perfection.

If you ask me, capitalism sucks unless it's moderated by a healthy dose of socialism. And even then it's still not a good system, just a system that's preferable to the alternatives.

Yes.
But its not perfect.

Capitalism with a SMALL amount of regulation is the best.

Its thanks to Capitalism that we enjoy many of the comforts that we have today.

Like Video Games, among many other things.

^THIS

Also capitalism seems to be more effective, more efficient, and natural.

yeah but it isnt about being the strongest, things lead up to a nations inability to have there economy thrive. sometimes historical circumstances lead up to its failure. is africa going to improve anytime soon? not likely. why? historical globalization. britain colonized it and now africa is starved of most resources.

I think that it is the best system that has been developed yet. Socialism/communism work great, when there are less that a couple hundred people involved, beyond that, corruption and laziness destroy it. the biggest problem with capitalism is that in capitalism, it is easiest to make money when you already have some, meaning that it inherintly increases the gap between the rich and the poor. Taxes could fix that, if the people setting the taxes werent on the rich side of that scale.

I would argue that the bigger problem in africa is that there are too many people. People were able to survive off the land in africa for thousands of years, the only reason they dont have enough resources now is because there are too many people. But, thats just my oppinion.

Yeah, it's way better to sell your friends and coworkers to the secret police in exchange for goods and privileges than open up a business and earn that filthy, filthy money.
Oh, what am I talking about? Sorry, I forgot capitalism is the only reason why people are greedy.
Put words in my mouth, why don't you? You seem to be under the impression that the only alternative to capitalism is some kind of nazism or malevolent fascism.

My point was that Capitalism is geared towards rewarding those who make money, no matter how they do it. The main question capitalism asks is if something is profitable, not if it's a good idea. That doesn't mean that every capitalist automatically turns into Gordon Gecko, since we're talking about people here, not robots that conform to the optimal path within any given economic system. It's just that the system rewards those that do. Capitalism does not reward the selfless. That's why a government needs to oversee the whole mess and step in when things get out of hand.

Well, I guess that would depend on how one defines "capitalism", doesn't it?
Touche, I tip my hat to you.

Britain colonized the US, and last time I checked we're not doing all that bad.

The problem in Africa has nothing to do with a lack of resources. More with corrupt non-centralized governments, drugs, and diseases. Ohh, and War.
