Dear Escapist, we need a cat thread.

No, not a cat picture thread or a "name my cat" thread (which is what search results turned up).

We need a cat appreciation thread! My cat just saved my life from this awful spider that was crawling along the wall. He knocked it down with a simple bat and devoured it in seconds, and now rests after his epic battle in the sunny spot by the window. What greater pet is there?

Share your cat's/cats' best hunting stories!

One day when I came home from school a few years ago, I found a small trail of blood and feathers starting from the front door and leading up to my parents' master bedroom. At the end of it was a very dead and mutilated bird and a very nonchalant cat. The funny thing is that the only way he could have gotten that bird was by luring it to the front door and pulling it inside. You see, my front door is covered by a big metal screen door that has MAYBE an inch of an opening between the base of the door frame and the bottom of the screen. My cat somehow got a bird so curious that it wandered to that tiny hole and he snatched it and pulled it through before preparing it as an offering for us. I can't say I would have found a bird to be a threat to the household, but I trust my cat's judgment.

My cat, or rather my mom's cat, likes to chase fly's throughout the house and eat them. That thing is a hero in my eyes, I hate those annoying bastards.

My two cats had a habit of bringing me back mice and birds, one time a frog and once a worm.
I usually scream and get someone else to clean it up then tell the cats off. The more I did that, the more they brought back x(
So last time I gave them a stroke and said thank you and pretended to eat it and told them, "Please don't bring any more back, I'm full now, thank you."
They haven't ever since. But now summers round the corner, all the field mice behind my house will be out... :/

One of my past cats used to do that.. pick up a mouse and meow like crazy telling you what a good boy he was providing food for the family.. then will happily eat it at the spot he dropped it behind you.. its like ewwwwww hearing munching and crunching... and leaving really nothing left of it.. just some entrails to clean up :p which is also very disgusting

My first cat was an outdoor mouser. Damn good one too, and smart. She chased a field mouse right into my cupped hands once (no, I am not joking).

My mom was baffled at how I had caught a field mouse, yelled at me and told me to wash my hands.

She also once killed a rabbit that weighed more than she did and laboriously dragged it to the house steps and presented it to me...it was hilarious watching my dad drag it back to the side of the road with the her dangling from it; hanging onto it by her teeth and growling at him every step of the way.

My second cat was a housecat through and through. She died not terribly long ago, though and it still bothers me. So I'm just going to leave it at that. (Had her for 12 years...such a smart and social kitty).

My tom cat does that, only with rats, if there is anything worse in the world than clearing up dead rat, its clearing up half eaten dead rat. Though I think he claimed his first rabbit the other week, can't prove it was him but for some reason there was a dead rabbit on the drive so I'm crediting it to him.

My tortoise shell cat catches bats which leads me to believe that cats can fly. Or my cat pretends to be an insect to lure them in.

My other cat doesn't really do much but meow, sleep and eat but is possible of being incredibly cute.

One of my cats you cannot give one of those refilling water bowls to.. you know the ones that have a tower full of water to replenish any water in the bowl automatically.. because he just puts his paw in the bowl and splashes around crazily until the tower is completely drained.. its his morning fun :p

A cat thread? Perfect, an opportunity to post this:

Anyways, I haven't had a cat in awhile, my last cat shit all over the house on Christmas Eve, just as my mom was getting ready for guests to come over. She basically threw the cat out after THAT fiasco.

Oh, fuck. The people who think they have problems with their cats carrying dead animals...I think you actually have bigger problems. Your cat may be trying to kill you [http://www.catswhothrowupgrass.com/kill.php]

This is one of the signs

Beware.

Hahaha, I never tried that, but my cats are both indoor cats so they usually don't have any presents for me. They just hunt bugs.

Or at least the one does.

My other cat is bad at it. About a week ago, I was in the kitchen in the middle of the night and she was following me around like usual, when a spider skittered to the center of the kitchen and just stopped. My cat and I both looked at it then looked at each other. So I told her, "Well, do something about it!" She looked at it, stalked it for a few seconds, then batted at it once. She then looked back at me again and just meowed. I had to get a pile of paper towels to smash and smother it myself. I was very disappointed.

My hunter cat on the other hand once jumped and caught a fly that was on the ceiling...

One of mine likes to tease spiders by putting his paw in the way when they try crawl away. He's the biggest troll ever. He picks them up with his mouth and spits them out, thinking they have a fighting chance. Then he suffocates them with his paw and just leaves them there :/ One time he had left about 5 or 6 spiders on his cat tree, it was like a burial ground.
My other cat doesn't hunt much... I try get her to kill any bugs if no one is around to get rid of them but she's getting fat and lazy now.

One of my cats is disgusting. He will eat squirrels and mice and he leaves only the heads of them behind. One day my mum saw him with blood dripping down his mouth. My old cat was amazing, she would hunt anything and everything, wouldn't take crap from anyone and would never leave a mess behind. But once she tried to eat a wasp and it stung her down her throat. My other cat often brings mice into my bedroom at night. It isn't pleasant to wake up to. I love cats! I got a kitten just yesterday.

I dont really have ay interesting stories because he's quite a placid and boring animal, but heres my moggy. 18 years of age (and 18 stone) but still looks quite kittenish despite it all.

Also, just found this. The mascot for the town of Hikone where I used to live in Japan. Pretty cool samurai type mascot thing that they love over there. I wanted to bring it home with me, but hes heavy :(

I guess these things count as cat related things
