I was wondering why people revere celebrities I know that they're in the entertainment business and they are talented at what they do, but they still are just regular people not paticulary better than others they're just doing they're job. So why do people revere them?

I honestly don't understand why people who can sing or act etc are considered the "better" people of our society. I think it comes down to "they make the most money so they must be the best people" i honestly hate how people you don't know make so much money some times.

Same reason why fans of anything choose to act like protectors of their favourite things. Why when you bash WoW people jump to its defense as if it was a small crippled child in need of help? Why when you say Muse sucks ass do people try and shove their cd down your face to prove you wrong.

OT: Celebrities are dumb. People think they are the saviors of humanity because they have good PR agents. If I had a good PR agent I wouldn't have problems with my mom always thinking I'm out causing trouble. I could be cast as the the greatest thing since .... Top Gear?

I gave up trying to understand people long ago.
Also, I think this topic is extremely cliche... Not that it isn't worth discussing, it has just been discussed so many times before.

Perhaps, for those people (e.g. the fans), the act of glorifying other people's lives (e.g. celebrities), is a way of forgetting their own miserably puny existence. To a certain extent of course.

That's a good point, but I'm not sure it applies that well to, say a songwriter (who can inspire people) as well as it does to a lawyer. On the other hand it most actors, and those "famous for being famous" celebreties to a T.

I haven't driven in almost 3 years. I'd drive a Honda Civic CRX right about now. Laps in just about anything would be wonderful!

I'm focusing more on actors as a whole and people who really don't contribute much but are glorified as if they're above everyone. In the end all celebrities are entertainers and entertainment is not i big importance in the world.

Because they love WoW/Muse/Homer Simpson (wait...) and they don't want other people defacing the honour of WoW/Muse/Homer Simpson. They're not defending their idol, they're defending their love of that idol.

yea ok, i couldnt think of a crappy car fast enough. Beetles just dont enter my mind as a car anymore.

I only mentioned it because the hosts think it to be the worst car ever made.

Anyway, it's just the way we have been brought up, to think that these people are much better than us, and that we should look up and adore them as a result. If we all stopped adoring them, they would just dissappear.

To be fair to the actors (which I hate being), there are very few people in the world that can "entertain" others. It takes a special kind of person to make millions of people laugh/cry/cheer over something that isn't exactly real. Do all actors/famous people do this? No way.

There are some actors, in my opinion, that deserve what they get paid. They bring characters to life in ways that no one else could. There are others that purely entertain us, but don't really provide depth of character other than once or twice (looking at you Vin Diesel).

On a whole, people like Paris Hilton pay for their fame with money. They don't actually deserve any of it. I mean, come on. A show about a rich girl who does work? A show. About a girl. Who does what everyone else does. How is that important at all?

Celebrities who are down to earth/modest: Great.
Celebrities who think the world revolves around them (Madonna, etc): Can shut their head in a door.
Celebrities who are only celebrities because they're celebrities (which doesn't even make sense): Can fuck off. At least Jade Goody... no, I'm not gonna go there.
