As the title says, Channel Awesome is on Indiegogo in an attempt to get funding for a new, yet to be decisively named, show that will focus on the interactive medium. As well as other things should they get beyond the initial funding goal.

Seems like they're going all in with this, not that I'd be too worried. They've certainly gained experience over the years handling large projects on miniscule resources. They appear more than capable of handling a budget. At the very least they have the motivation.

Though it's not exactly an empty arena they're trying to enter, with several giants already well established such as Screw Attack and the Escapist. But if they think they can come up with something new and refreshing, let them try!

I'll watch the progress with interest.

They'll make their budget back, but I'm not giving them anything. The guys who I go to the site for already have their own offsite web pages that I can support individually. Plus I cannot stand Doug Walker. His shows bring in the largest numbers but I find them to be the weakest on the site. Nostalgia Critic has changed from being about Nostalgic movies to just another show where he gets on a soapbox to ***** about movies he doesn't like. The same as every other person who ripped off his original schtick. Except that his bitchfests are also intercut with horrible actors that he refuses to fire because that would mean admitting that Demo Reel wasn't anything more than a colossal failure that nearly killed the site.

So anyways, yeah, not giving them money for this, and I worry about how much of Doug's cancerous influence will seep into the series.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
I can't remember the last time their big projects actually entertained me, and as you said, the last 'big' budget thing they did was Demo Reel, which bombed so hard it wasn't even funny. Even NCs videos aren't that funny any more, due in large part to those godawful extras he brought in for the mid-episode sketches. He seems to not have realised that what made those sketches at best good and at worst tolerable before were the other site contributor cameos, because they have established characters and chemistry with one another. Honestly, he should have put the Critic to rest a year ago.
Needless to say, I won't be contributing to this project, because I fully expect it to fail like so many before it.

It's like you read my mind, I pretty much agree it feels like he is now going over movies that aren't "nostalgic". The sad thing is I didn't mind it so much, but the skits he did was his Demo Reel cast felt out of place and forced. Also I grew tired of how he always brings up the trolls on his videos recently, I thought we had Douchy McNitpick for that? Also I get why he stopped Nostalgia Critic I really do, and I didn't watch Demo Reel cause it felt blah. But it felt like he only brought it back just to bring in fans, and I feel it took a hit in quality for doing that.

Case in point: his newest review of Sailor Moon [http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/nostalgia-critic-sailor-moon-6625851]. Not only is he nudging in on Sage's territory, watching Doug try to cover the same material that Bennett works on shows just how bad he can seem in comparison. I honestly got more laughs from being reminded of how bad this show was than any of Doug's camera mugging.

But the biggest sticking point was his discussion on Japan's age of consent. When Bennett takes time out of a video to go into some context or history, he does it very matter-of-factly. No sugarcoating the information, no quips, just right to the point. Doug's entire aside on the sexualised nature of the show ended with an "Eww! Icky!" punchline, followed by another awful skit about his boner.

It just shows the difference between making glib remarks about something in front of you, and actually knowing what the fuck you're talking about.

I think the biggest problem is that he doesn't know when to kill a joke or train of thought. He rambles. Like that quip from the Jurassic Park about the poorly designed fence. A few years ago he would have just said it and moved on. But instead, he has his Demo Reel pals illustrate & act out the fence-building joke.

He's a natural rambler. Watch some of his vlogs and you'll see it's his style, he talks forever and can't get to the point.

I said mean things about Doug Walker. Aren't I smart and edgy? Will you love me now? Please love me. Mommy doesn't love me anymore, so will you love me instead?

It seems the only thing on this site hated more than EA or the Xbox One is...the Nostalgia Critic? Uh...huh.

You didn't say they were wrong, though.

Anyway, I'm also going to say I'm not a fan of the NC, however, he's been doing his thing for...how long? IMHO, he was never very funny, but for a long while he was regularly reasonably entertaining, much longer than most people. It also doesn't help that the rest of his crew either stopped being funny or left to be replaced by people of questionable talent.

Really, I don't think it's reasonable to expect him to keep the quality up, like everything else, it reaches a point where it's not working anymore and should be put to rest.

Well the last time they did something like this they came out with demo reel, and if you don't know what that is search for the super villain shuffle and see.

Problem was, the last time they did something like this, it resulted in Demo Reel, which was such a disaster that he needed to bring the Critic back to regain that sweet Blip ad revenue. I can't help but feel that if they need to go to crowdfunding for their next project, the Nostalgia Critic reboot is also turning into a sinking ship. So they're asking us for cash to make their next flop.

For a site that apparently was making them thousands of dollars a week at one point, they're really on hard times now. Doesn't help that most of their content creators have their own sites where they can receive individual support. Hell, Sage and JO both have their own websites that come first, and they pretty much only use Channel Awesome as a secondary host for their videos.
