After searching in vain for anything about this here, I decided to put this up.

For those afraid of evil links, it basically means that British children seem to think being stupid makes you a good role model.

Out of all ideal teachers, Cheryl Cole was named first. Stephen Fry was ninth, being beaten by fucking Katie Price of all people.

David Soskin, Swapit's chairman, said: "Kids and adults alike love the glitz and glamour of the X Factor and Cheryl is rapidly becoming a great role model for kids."
Does anyone else find this depressing?

Yep, this is kind of depressing. It's a symptom of how far celebrity culture has wormed its way into the majority of people's heads.
I mean, Katie Price a better teacher than Stephen Fry? Yeah right...

Depressing, what's even more depressing is that i'm not surprised. Did it not occur to these people that popularity is not the most important thing for a role model? Clearly knowing anything is overrated for most kids today.

Christ i sound miserly there :p

Here is something you should know about me.

No one in this current world p**** me off more the Cheryl Cole, if I was given a boxing glove-o-matic that I could use on only one person for all eternity, she would be the victim.

Being taught by Wayne Rooney would be like watching a video of a potato sprouting in real time. Or Shrek.

All this goes to show that small children don't know what makes a good teacher, just who's popular. They're not going to get a say in who becomes their teacher, so no worries!

I can't find this story depressing since I don't know what The X Factor is nor do I know that woman.

She's not even that hot.

What? No one said Jeremy Clarkson?

And...MILEY CYRUS is number 3?!
Yeah, I'm still not sure if she even went to school.

And Jezza would be pretty awesome, though all the kids would come back making fun of foreign people and truck drivers.

Oh god, kids today are just in the smarts aren't they. Cheryl Cole > Stephen Fry? Seriously? May I give a resounding WHAT THE DUCK?

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong. It is not at all the kids that are depressing here. Kids are "smart", as they say. When you went to school as a kid, did you want someone who you thought would be a good teacher or someone who would let you coast through the day?

Exactly.

I'm not familiar with this Cheryl Cole person really, but judging by everybody's reactions, I'd say that the depressing thing is the principal or whatever calling her an excellent role-model. That is not why they picked her.

Edit: The bottom line is that kids are no more stupid today than they were 10, 20, 30 or 100 years ago.

Did people really expect kids to say someone like Stephen Hawking when presented with this question? Of course they will vote for a celebrity, we should be glad Stephen Fry is on the list.

It's not surprising at all. Schoolchildren are useless at picking good teachers. They just want someone pretty and kind. Just be glad they don't get to pick their teachers.

I would post a link to "Hot for Teacher", but at work so no youtube.

This is just further proof (if needed) that children don't know whats best for them which is why their opinions used to be ignored when decisions were made.

I was taken aback too. Since when did the environment take precedence to the importance of us trouncing some foreign people at kicking a ball to win a shiny piece of shaped metal?

Well, Tennant was second.
So at least i am partially satisfied. (and that he beat Miley Cyrus)
But still, Stephen Fry should have gotten higher.
