Hello, my beautiful people[footnote]Yes, that also means you[/footnote]. Ubisoft saw fit to offer one of their games for free for the duration of Gamescom.

Available for free on Steam until the 27th, or put another way, until this timer runs out: [timer=08/27/2018 6:00 PM GMT].

All you need to do is install it once and the Starter Edition be permanently added to you Steam library. A quick warning tho, this game requires UPlay and also comes with Denuvo DRM. I also have no idea whether it still has a playerbase to speak of, so there's also that to consider.

But hey, still free. So, anyone who wants it, you know what to do.

It is for keeps. If it was just a free weekend, it would say so. This isn't the first time Steam has done this, nor Ubisoft.

From what Iv'e heard they've gone through a bit of renaissance, getting actual servers and smoothing out some of their gameplay/meta grind.

Though I never heard anything specific about the whole broken item balance (where higher level players would just literally have better gear*) or the obscenely overpriced cosmetics (Whether you wanted to grind or buy them with the MTs it was just ludicrous).

(*Which you could also buy. You couln't get gear of a higher level then you, but once you got the level, you could certainly pay til you got the infinite rage build or whatever)

From what I heard they severely limited stacking effects on the gear. So the gear does still give stat bonuses, but they aren't anywhere near as ridiculous as they were when they game launched. New players are still at a disadvantage, but better gear won't carry you.

So still not a good system, but not as bad as it was.
