I actually played this one. It's a none too deep brawler, but assuming you don't mind being an Ultrasmurf, there something deeply satisfying about playing a 9-foot tall armored ubermensch and wading through hordes of Orks. Over-the-top & dumb, but fun. And then you get a Thunder Hammer and Jetpack.

I've never played a game that made you feel more like a badass than this one. And you get new weapons often enough that things don't get boring. The campaign isn't too long, definitely worth it imo.

Own it already on Xbox 360.

I have to be honest though, I had more fun with this game then any of the Dawn of War games. Which is ironic cause you think an RTS would be a better adaptation of a tabletop wargame.

I am still wishing for my Dream 40k game to happen which I detailed in a thread awhile back, basically its a big budget turned based strategy game that plays like Fire Emblem/Advanced War.

That would be orgasmic. Not the same, but check out age of wonder 3 or warlock master of arcane for something that's remotely similar.

Otherwise, thanks for the heads on the game. I actually like newsletter. As much as people talk about how spooky it is that company can snoop on you and target you in adds, I find that there incredibly shitty at ding it (I bough a hard drive and a sata cable 2 weeks ago and I'm still getting adds about it and I bough the drive in a sales that I just randomly saw because I looked for it rather than it being advertised to me).

There's nothing too wrong with the game but it's just so regular. They really needed better levels and scenarios. Corridors upon corridors of the same orks do get a bit old. Final boss being a QTE is also a massive sin.

I'm probably holding it to way too high a standard, but I really wanted a 40k game that blows my mind. I thought the trailer they released earlier was badass. I wanted to fall in love, but this was just a tepid friendship.

Dawn of War 2 still remains my favourite among the Relic games. While people are very divided on it, I super enjoyed my squad in the campaign and the whole band of brothers feelings going on with all the conversations and chatter. Something I was hoping Space Marine would've done too, but we just got two sidekick smurfs which didn't really do that much.

Though with Eternal Crusade being the absolute arse it is, this might draw some people back to the multiplayer so it's probably a good opportunity to give that a spin.

I agree. The enemy variety is not that great, at least not in terms of requiring a different tactical approach, and the combat system is too basic to compensate. Like you said, it eventually wears out its welcome.

One thing I do really like about the combat tho, is how you regain health in combat. Beat an enemy to within an inch and then glory kill the crap out of him. There's not enough variation in animation to keep it fresh, but it feels very 'true' to the 40K setting to not play it safe when close to defeat, but to aggresively charge in and be rewarded for it.

The mechanic is similar enough to DOOM's that I wonder if this is where id Software got the idea. I'd say id did it better tho, by making their glory kills both fast and making you invulnerable during. IIRC, Space Marine didn't, so it was possible to die while stuck in the animation.
