Ok, I´ll admit, I´ve never seen many Chuck Norris´ movies, so maybe it´s because of my lack of culture, but why is Chuck Norris considered to be the badass of badassery? I mean, killing a lot of guys is ok, but when did the Norris jokes appeared?
We all in our Internet lifes published, told or at least read a Norris joke, but does anyone knows where did they start?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Norris_facts

Chuck Norris Facts originally started appearing on the Internet in early 2005. Conan O'Brien's Chuck Norris jokes on Late Night with Conan O'Brien (which generally center on Walker, Texas Ranger) have been seen as an inspiration for the fad. Chuck Norris Facts followed facts based on actors Vin Diesel, Mr. T, and Bob Saget. The exaggerated style of these facts is similar to a recurring Saturday Night Live sketch called "Bill Brasky".

Due to the popularity of this phenomenon, similar jokes have been created for various other celebrities, as well as fictional characters.

They have been going for literally years.

He's an ex Karate champion and is always portrayed on programs/films as being hard as fuck.

I like to mock Norris fans by reminding them that Bruce Lee trained him AND kicked his arse. They don't like that.

It all actually began as "Vin Diesel" facts, but for some reason that never really took of, then someone changed it to Chuck Norris, and because of his ridiculously over the top martial arts escapades in his movies and TV show it kinda made sense in an in-joke way... like the idea of a plump Steven Seagal being a super deadly spec ops soldier.

Who? Chuck Norris the Christian fundamentalist, dominionist and creationist?

Not a fan I'm afraid. I dislike anyone that thinks they know the meaning and purpose of the universe, even if they are good at kicking people.

Thank you, I needed a good laugh today. In all seriousness, the man has a military cadence about him.

I don't think anyone could tell you why, it just happened and it is awesome.

From what I've heard, he just had a knack for promoting himself as a badass. I saw a clip from Walker Texas Ranger where he stared down a grisly bear and made it timidly walk away.

He is also the ONLY WESTERNER to be awarded the title of Grand Master in his discipline of karate.
