So,i know that we talked a bit in the nintendo direct thread, but i think the subject merit it's own subject

So, first, wow, such great and unexpected news. First full civ game on console since what, civ 2 on ps2 ? something like that ? then exclusive to switch, no ps4 or xbox one. it's comming this year, and i guess would hve been a huge bomb drop in the delayed direct. Apparently the IOS version is pretty great, so they might use that version as a base. i expect touch controls in handheld mode. and maybe 1080p in dock.

let's dig a bit into what they said : "the latest game updates and improvements, and four pieces of additional content which adds four new civilizations, leaders, and scenarios." These new scenarios are the Vikings pack, Poland pack, Australia pack, and the Persia and Macedon pack."

now, that's leave Nubia and Khmer and indonesia pack out for paid dlc. What is unclear to me is if that include rise and fall expension pack. because if it does, i might think about buying it on the switch. i played 600+ hours on civ VI, but i didnt had the time yet to buy rise and fall, nor the additional civs, but i was planning to do it.

Now, rise and fall alone is 35$, the civs packs are worth 25$ that's 60$ (canadian mind you) that i would have to put just to get the addition content, and new switch games are usually 80$. so for 20$ i get the portability factor. It's a huge maybe...

Now, what do you guys think ? is it a big news? did you expexcted that ?

Civ VI getting a console port is big enough. The fact it's only the Switch (for now) is even bigger. I didn't hear about it getting the recent Rise and Fall expansion, so we'll see

yeah actually, i just found out that rise and fall will not part of the game, and i guess probably not available at all on the switch version, which is a let down. Aspyr Media was nammed in the announcement, so it will be a port of the ipad version. not exactly the same GUI as civ VI pc, but it's a fully complete game, not a waterdown version of it

I honestly don't think it is that big of a deal. It's worth a try I guess, maybe the touchscreen will make it not suck to play. But traditionally RTS/strategy games simply don't work on console controls. Take a look at Divinity 2, the game is fantastic on PC but plays like a ballsack stuck in mud on console, due to the inaccurate nature of analog movement.

Civ suffers less from that because it's turn and menu based so it's reasonable to think that a controller MIGHT work, but........Civ's ui is also insane and looking at it on a tiny ass portable screen, plus trying to navigate menus with a controller might still be ass.

Only time will tell.

Uh, yeah, last time a main Civilization was on a console: Civilization II. In 1999 on the Playstation. So nearly twenty years (not counting Civ Rev which was a console exclusive for the PS3 and 360). It's one of the biggest strategy series of all time and it's coming to the Switch of all things. That's a pretty big deal. And another thing I realized that the Switch has that the PS4 and XB1 don't have: point and click controls due to the Joy Cons.

DragonQuest hasn't been on a console in 14 years, doesn't make DQ11 a big deal. Distance between console ports doesn't make the port important. And Civ hasn't been on consoles because console controls are flat out NOT GOOD for these types of games. It's cool that they are trying again, and the Switch does have a touch screen which may help, but I think you might be overexcited for this. Just a tad.

I.E. excited at all because in gaming we must react to all news with dispassionate indifference out of some misguided interpretation of "objectivity." Anyway...

Interesting, but it makes sense considering how the Switch has a touch screen.
