I've been seeing a trend lately where the great games don't have co-op, either online or offline. Examples include TF2, CoD 4, and R6V.

Here's my drift: wouldn't adding co-op be a plus for developers? I mean with co-op, the owner of the game can play with people that don't have the game, therefore making the owner's friends want to go out and buy the game.

TF2 is multiplayer only, it should be obvious why it has no co-op. Not that I don't agree with you, co-op is fun, but not all gamess should have it. Though at the very least split screen and having guests on Live would be nice to have in more games.

well, you've mentioned mostly shooters there infact they all are. co-op seems like a simple thing to throw on shooters and it does always agrivate me when there is no co-op campaign in a shooter. but in action/adventure games like god of war or connan, co-op would be really hard to integrate however when they do it usually turns into a total ass kicking fest, like shaolin monks, i still play that game simply because i can do it two player.

When you say co-op, I assume you mean split screen on one machine? It generally means something else to pc gamers ( the only pc games I can think of with on-screen co-op are the Lego Star Wars ones), and it's sadly quite rare.

As far as console games go, I think maybe it is trend based - now that online gaming is so common with console titles, I believe developers think that split screen gaming is 'old fashioned', and that they have to be online. Of course they could do both, but that would require time, effort and money. And we can't have that can we?

I disagree. If you're friend owns the game, why not just pop round theirs and play it until you both get bored then you save yourself £40? You could spend that on another co-op game that your friend doesn't have. Double the fun.

I agree there should be more co-op games. I'm adament all games are going online now to make sure every individual buys their own copy. Plus they can add all those programmes that make sure you don't own a pirate copy, because everyone in the gaming industry knows EVERYONE these days owns pirate games... not one of us here is guilty.
