CoD:MW vs MoH

I was out at the mall at lunchtime and I saw the CoD:MW3 trailer being shown on a display and it had navy seals running around London, Paris, NY(?).
It got me wondering about the obsession some people have with the USA being invaded of all things.
Resistance 2, Homefront, CoD:MW2... there are others but I won't go on.
The alien invasion is passable as a plot point but invasion by North Korea?
Or Russia? Come on!

It just makes me recall those games as plain silly and even though MW2 was a better 'game' than MoH I just can't take it seriously enough to ever load it up again.
I actually prefer MoH now flaws and all just because it puts one foot in the 'reality' sphere but doesn't ruin by putting the other foot in the la-la-land nuthouse.

Thoughts?

Pretty sure it was a shift in story-telling style after the over saturation of the WW2 or "USA 'invading' others in a modern setting" games, somehow they always come out in drove, like zombie games.

And yes, you are not supposed to take it seriously, I always saw these type of games as tourism with an action twist, think Mercenaries 2 and blowing stuff up in Venezuela :p

No one has ever dared to have a game with a World War 3 twist, while we may not wish for it to occur in reality, there's nothing preventing us from having a video game about a fictional scenario where WW3 could happen with America fighting the good fight(it's a game developed by Americans, who do you expect the main protagonists are going to be? Australians? ;p).

Doesn't matter how 'stupid' the stories might be, all that matters is the game-play, mission scenarios, the beauty of how the skirmishes might be set up, CoD4 was great on that front. MW2 had some great moments too, like chasing that one weapon dealer around in the Brazilian slum etc ...

Dude, this is like comparing craps to turds.

EDIT: Preferred CoD's over the top story than plain old boring MoH though. So in all sense CoD:MW >>> MoH

CODs 1 through 5 had stupid stories?

OT: I just stick to COD4. There are still enough people playing it for it to be fun.

Same here. Its a game set in a fictional world where Russia invades the whole world, your eyes bleed when you get shot anywhere on your body and having a beard makes you the most baddass person ever.

I agree with that, I mean Modern Warfare's story was good, MW2's was very silly, but it didn't bother me much. It's still better than the old story telling formula of boring WW2 stories.

I'd say that MW and MW2 are both the same in terms of story, because it all the same. Like when people say the 1st Matrix, or Lord Of The Rings is the best. To me, it's all one story, and in MW's case, all one big pretty average story

I was never really a fan of either, but I just played Modern Warfare 2 for the first time (yes, I know I'm a little late, thank you) and it seemed silly. Half the plot points don't really make sense. It feels like they are just throwing random action sequences at you because they're afraid you'll get bored and do something else if you haven't killed something in the last 42 seconds.

What I'm getting at is all these games take place in a realistic setting and I'm happy for them to be works of fiction but there is a limit to how much you can get away with.
Nuclear devices being set off by terrorists I can go with.
Terrorist attacks on airports, way too believable.
Russia invading the USA... hold on chaps.
You're pushing the suspension of disbelief a bit too far.
At that point I stopped caring about my role in the plot. The DC sections were just tedious for me. You may as well have said Canadians had invaded in order to secure the worlds supply of maple syrup. That would have been as stupid.
MoH however never got silly so I gave a s*** about what happened to my character.

So in summary MW good, MW2 silly. MoH not as good as MW but I'll prefer and replay it.
