I'm gonna pick up MW3 because I keep hearing how amazing it is. Could someone who has played the first two give me a brief tl;dr for the campaign plot of things I should know to understand the 3rd? Thanks.
Thanks bro!Sniper Team 4 said:Modern Warfare: Soap joins the SAS under Captain Price. They work behind the scenes in Russia to prevent the 'Bad Russians' from gaining power. They rescue an informant named Nikoli.
Meanwhile, the US invades a country in the Middle East because a coup has taken place, resulting in terrorists being in control of the region. The US goes in and finds a nuclear warhead, but fails to disarm it. You, along with your squad, are caught in the blast and killed.
Cut back to Soap. The SAS learn that Zakehav is behind the nuke and begin tracking him down. First they catch his son, but he kills himself. Wanting revenge, Z takes over a Russian missile base and launches nukes at the U.S. Soap, Price, SAS and US Marines disable the warheads from a computer and begin fleeing Russian forces. Z's army corners them on the bridge and kills everyone. Just as he's about to kill Soap, the 'Good Russians' arrive in time to help. Price, apparently dying, slides Soap a pistol and Soap kills Z. Game ends with a Russian standing over you saying, "You are going to be alright, my friend." Price appears dead on the freeway.
Modern Warfare 2: Things didn't work out in Russia. The 'Bad Russians' gained control and tensions are high. A new leader of the Ultra Nationalists (bad Russians) named Makarov wants to plunge the world into war. The CIA and General Sheperd send Private Allen (you) to sneak into Makarov's gang. After slaughtering civilians in an airport, Makarov turns around and shoots Allen, killing him. It's discovered that Allen is CIA, and Russian immediately declares war on the US. The US defenses have been hacked and they are caught completely off guard. The US campaign is spent mostly counter attacking after Russia invades the country. You also come across some clues as to what's going on with Makarov, but it's never explained really.
Soap is now the leader of Task Force 141, a special unit that answers to Sheperd. You place as Roach. Their goal is to track down Makarov. To do this, they discover that someone Makarov hates is being held in a Russian prison. They attack the prison to capture the person, but are shocked to find that it's Price. Price joins the hunt and, because the US is in danger of losing the White House, he launches a nuclear missile at the US. The resulting EMP blast knocks out all Russian armor and air, giving the US the break it needs to recover.
Sheperd sends Roach and a small squad to Makarov's safehouse, while Soap and Price go to another one. Roach and his team find tons of intel on Makarov and call for evac. When Shep and his men arrive, he kills Roach and his team, then takes the evidence.
Though never actually stated, it is implied that Sheperd was working with Makarov from the beginning, and that's what was in the intel. He did it to be a hero and get volunteers for the army by having Russia attack the US.
Soap and Price, now wanted men thanks to Sheperd's influence, decide to kill Sheperd. They hunt him down, and after nearly both being killed--Sheperd stabs Soap in the gut--they manage to kill Sheperd. Nikoli flies in and he and Price carry Soap to a chopper. The game ends with Price saying they need to get somewhere safe. Nikoli replies with, "D'ah. I know a place." Cut to black.
And there you go.
Thanks for summing up every shooter that has ever been made.Ophiuchus said:I think 'gun goes bang, man falls down, repeat a billion times' pretty much covers it. Oh, and there's a bit specifically designed to make anti-video game campaigners wet themselves.

The main protagonists in the Call of Duty series are both English.
Except the main protagonists, Price and "Soap" (Who is scottish), are from the British SAS.Mr.K. said:You is big american hero, you killz all evil non americans, go go go!

Actually you only play as an American in the missions that are clearly headed by the Americans. Its like saying that CoD 2 is bad because you play as Russians in the Russian Campaign. Also, there's Captain Price and Kamarov, two main good characters that aren't American.Ilikemilkshake said:Since when?SillyBear said:What?Mr.K. said:You is big american hero, you killz all evil non americans, go go go!
