Hi everyone. I've been convinced by many friends to go with them to the San Diego Comic-Con, but this is my first convention ever so I don't know what to wear or bring. If possible I would love to hear some ideas or thoughts of how a girl can survive Comic-Con.

Thanks in advance ^_~

I was at a con once, first tip is this
Loose your sense of comfort and dignity, by this i mean it's no shame to curl up on the floor for a nap after too many hours of fun. (though we had designated sleep areas... the dressing room/showers of the schools gym (it was held at some school over a weekend)

Eating hotdogs for breakfast, lunch and dinner may not be good for your body, but who gives a fuck, it's not model-con.

Bring as much money as you can spare, you're gonna need it to buy awesome stuff, food and other stuff. Don't bring what you can't spare/credit card if you're not good at managing your money.

These rules could easily be applied to music-festivals as well

EDIT: almost forgot, showers are for loosers and scissors are for violence

Well, since they give you a bag of stuff at the beginning, you start out with a good amount of carry space. Unless you go absolutely nuts buying stuff, that's likely to be all you need. I'd say to make sure not to leave anything unattended, but I figure that's probably common sense (and you'll apparently have company, so that's good).

Unless you're cosplaying, outfit doesn't matter too much (no amount of fashion sense holds up against a Slave Leia costume). Dress for warm weather, though, and wear shoes that are comfortable to walk in.

Really, just plan for a lot of walking. The main hall is humongous, and it's only a little over half the total area. There's also the Sails Pavilion, the event rooms, the back area (where I think the LARPers hang out), and the anime rooms (where I'm working). Generally, the second floor areas on the east side of the Pavilion are great places to rest, if need be.

Have an early "Welcome to San Diego" and have fun! ^_^

EDIT: ...ninja'd six times. Ouch.

Speaking as a local of San Diego and a prior Comic-Con attendee, I have a few tips:

Overall Items to bring: extra anti-body odor items, a decent amount of spending money, and a good night's sleep prior.

Food-wise, go outside of the Convention Centre and go a few blocks into Downtown, and you can find cheap food. That's what I'm gonna do, do it the local way!

Transportation-wise: Grab the trolley as early as possible, there's a special event track that goes all the way from State to the Convention Center, but it gets crowded. Fast. Plus it smells. If you're staying Downtown, then get up at the ass-crack of dawn (or earlier), grab coffee, and get there by foot, if you're close enough.

Also, meet up with other Escapists for fun, I'm trying to organize an Escapism Comic-Con, if they're enough interest.
Scratch that, I can't organize that, but someone send me a PM if you're willing to!

What about costumes? I'm sure she was yanking my chain, but a friend said (depending on the weather of course) you have to come in costume at least once

I've yet to. I think the only costumes I could actually pull off would be either <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RsepQh342g>Gendou Ikari or Gordon Freeman.

Cosplay I guess can be fun (especially Saturday night, during the Masquerade), but it's definitely not necessary.

It isn't required at all, but if you decide to go in costume it should be comfortable or you could get over heated from thick clothes or be unable to walk comfortably from high heels/ stilettos

Just have fun and don't take anything (including yourself) seriously.

Also, loosen up and have fun. Everyone there will be super nice. I have never been to San Diego, but I have been to tons of Comic Cons and they are a lot of fun.

To survive any gathering of nerds, simply don't move. Their sight is based on movement.

(stops moving)
Nerd - "Where'd you go?"

Cookie for the (doctored slightly) reference.
