Wondering if anyone could suggest some new comics to read. Overall I'm pretty new to the whole comics world but I have read Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and The Dark Knight Returns. I've thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Thanks in advance.

Graphic novel confusion rage commencing in 3...2...1...

Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos is an AWESOME series full of badassery.

The Darkness is pretty good and the Punisher MAX series is some of my favorite stuff ever.

^ This one's a miniseries, but DAMN.

I think on amazon or book sites you can probably get a preview of the first 15 pages or so since with the exception of Supergod, all of the above entries have been published in the standard 12 issue graphic novel "book" format.

Promethea and The Filth are artistic MINDFUCKS, whereas Transmet and Preacher are more accessible and linear stories.

Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth is worth checking out.

And if you're into Star Wars, definitely check out Legacy and Knights of the Old Republic.

Pretty much stuff written by these guys:

Warren Ellis (Next Wave: Agents of Hate, The Authority, Transmetropolitian, Ultimates Galatus Trilogy)
Garth Ennis (Hellblazer, Hitman, Punisher MAX, Preacher, The Boys)
Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)
Grant Morrison (All Star Superman, Animal Man, The Invisibles)
Mark Millar (Kickass, Wanted, Ultimates 1 and 2, Superman : Red Son, The Authority)
Neil Gaimon (Sandman)
Brian Michael Bendis (Alias, Powers)
Brian K. Vaughn (Y - The Last Man, Runaways, Pride of Baghdad, Ex Machina).

I remember reading all the Filth in one sitting, going to bed and waking up thinking I'd dreamt all of it, before double checking it was actually in the comics, and being amazed that the Filth is weirder than anything I could conceive in my dreams. I mean flying sperm that kill people?

I recommend brushing up on your Victorian classic literature and the tackling the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

The Sandman is a good choice, and keep an encyclopedia ready for all the references.

NOiSE! by Tsutomu Nihei.

It's weird shit, but also simple fun. Just like everything Nihei does.

And, of course, Kingdom Come.

A very fun way of reimagining the future of DC comics.

The walking dead. But instead of buying the first book, get the The Walking Dead: Compendium 1.

I'm re-reading Superman: Red Son at the moment
If you enjoyed The Dark Knight Returns, this one's worth checking out. Elseworlds/alternate history stories are always the most fun and interesting and Red Son is my personal favourite

Remaining in the Mark Millar spirit, I also recommend Kick-Ass (the film rocks and the book is even better), Wanted (same case scenario) and The Ultimates, which is a modern revamping of The Avengers and is brilliantly written with hilarious one-liners ("Do you think this letter on my head stands for France?!") and a really great story with beautiful artwork

I also recommend, if you want a specific hero to follow and series to collect, picking up Geoff Johns' current Green Lantern series, starting with Rebirth and going on through the Sinestro Corps War, Blackest Night and Brightest Day

Godamnit! Ninja'd by almost everyone.

For a thought provoking read check out Ex Machina. A mechanically augmented super hero retires and becomes a politician.

Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN has been mentioned. I'd also recommend BLACK ORCHID (Dave McKean's art in this one rocks).

Grant Morrison's THE INVISIBLES and, if you're into Batman, ARKHAM ASYLUM. His run of DOOM PATROL is also extremely fun. Oh, and FLEX MENTALLO. (All of these are less of a mindf*ck than The Filth.)

Charles Burns's grotesque EL BORBAH and the darker BLACK HOLE.

Warren Ellis's FELL - short and simple crime stories, somewhat neo-noir in style, with art by Templesmith.

Wow. Looks like I'll be busy for a while. Good thing this semesters almost over. Just picked up the first volume of The Sandman and will order The Filth next chance I get.

But please, keep the suggestions coming, this is great.
