For reasons I cant remember, I needed to find a picture of the old mammoth tank from Command and Conquer, and so I went to its wiki, and like all times I got to a wiki, I end up clicking around, and found CnC's story is really becoming a soft science nightmare. I only ever played the original and Red Alert. Both were fairly simple (Nod/USSR are making problems, go kill them or help them) but now it seems like its just gone off the deep end.

Never mind the confusing links between red alert and original one. In the original story line it seems like there now some aliens or something, and some kinda bizarre computer systems that proves SHODAN should have made some Lawyer Hybrids and the fact that Kane seems to be really the Cain from the bible, or something like that.

Red Alert was murky to begin with, with Einstein time travelling and all, but now it seems there?s some evil psychic guy who?s now even worse then the Soviets, but he gets killed, but not really because he has clones or something.

It seems like quite the odd story for a game that?s build a base, then use it to kill the other base.

Red Alert and Tiberian CnC are in different universes, that clears up the story a bit but its still a bit of a mess, you should see RA3's story :S

Yeah but Kane appears in some of the cut scenes in red alert 1

And they really don't make 'em like the used to, i remember playing through CnC3, then instantly wanting to go back and do CnC all over again, because i knew it was so much better, and it was.

Kane appears in Red Alert 1, but that was when Westwood had control over the story, though when EA got their claws in that part of the story was "forgotten" for want of a better word, Retroactive Continuity if you will. It is the Same as Halo, when Microsoft wasn't in control of it, One of the high ups stated that the Marathon and Halo series were connected, though when Halo became Microsfots latest little cash cow they didn't want it connected with the best selling Mac game franchise that was Marathon.

hope that helps

It isn't suffering from Indigo Prophecy syndrome unless it pulls 'The entire conflict is in fact just a front for the struggle between an ancient, secret cult of immortal Mayans and a super-AI who are fighting for control of the world'.

I think westwood would have eventually tied the universes together but EA went and destroyed that.

@previous post
one of the levels on red alert 2, involved ancient mayan pyramids that were altered by yuri to have lasers on them. So I think we're fully there.

I dont think its is suffering from "merrytime syndrome" as yahtzee would call it because the characters in it have not recieved super powers from nowhere (which is surprisind because every comic book ever made says people will gain super powers if thier exposed to radioactive material like tiberium, but i digress)but every other element is there including the crazy ass cult and introduction of supernatural elements

Well, some have. in one CnC there are people who are mutated by the tiberium, the work for both sides i think, but mostly NoD.

Yup, though, they don't really seem all that super, mostly it just deforms people and drastically shortens their lifespans. Some do get powers of a sort. As for the aliens, well, they were hinted at in Tiberian Sun, what with the Scrin derelict and all that, although it doesn't specifically state this in game.

I do hope they'll stick with the live action FMVs for Red Alert 3, and they hire actors who will do at least as good as the previous installments, hamming it up as all hell whoo :D

Edit: Also, C.A.B.A.L. is fun, and not a total rip off of SHODAN, though there are similarities of course, I'd say he's more like H.A.L. from 2001 rather than SHODAN, although with a little sense of black humor built in.

yes, there are live action FMVs in RA3, one of the actors is a wrestler or something like that :/

Let me try to explain RA's story since I'm feeling crazy:
Einstein Erases Hitler from the timeline, this causes the Soveit Union to replace the Nazis in WW2, except in the 50's and technology is far more advanced than it is in our timeline (the Allies have Abrams tanks, in the 50's, oh an telsa coils, cyborgs, etc) The european countries form the Allies, despite america not being involved initially, every allied soldier has American accents...:S . Sovs attempt to nuke the major Allied cities, fails, and America, Japan and India join the war, apparantly. Allies defeat Sovs, kill Stalin, and create a puppet government in Russia. RA2: Puppet government rebels, tries to mind control America, fails, is defeated again. Yuri (The psychic advisor to the premier) tries to take ove the world and is stopped by time travel. RA3: USSR go back in time and kill Einstein. Pretty much erases what I just explained, and makes Japan get in the war. Oh, and there's bears :3 .

p.s. I'm in the queue for the beta :p
p.p.s. I don't like where EA's going with the look of Japan, transforming robots, me like; but psychic schoolgirl commandos? urgh.

Well atleast its unique..Japan has robos, Allies have pure fire power and harsh language, And USSR have a whole bunch of advanced technology.

If you're playing C&C games for story and not hammy live-action seqences and gameplay, all I can say is "you're mad".

We already had attack squids but they just went Kraken onto other ships instead of trying to rape Tanya. Speaking of which, can she still kill dolphins with c4 like in ra2?

Actually, I think it's suffering more from the far more severe "Having had no significant gameplay advances in ten years" syndrome.

Um, no.

Now to elaborate.

There's no connection between the universes of Halo and Marathon; they don't fit at all together, and from what I can tell never did. There are Marathon references in Halo, but they're nods to the long-term fans and not breadcrumbs leading to a linking of the two. It's impossible that the two could be linked; the timelines don't match and the technologies aren't similar. (In Marathon, taking place in the 2700s, Humans didn't discover Faster Than Light travel; in Halo, taking place in the 2500s, Humans had their own FTL for over a century. Also, the Marathon was Earth's first colony ship; Halo, however, had hundreds of colonies on dozens of worlds by the time the Marathon would have departed.) The Halo timeline was written before the buy-out, so Microsoft had nothing to do with any changes to separate the two.

The closest I can see to a "higher-up" saying that the two are linked is Joe Staten's (or was it Jason Jones'?) comment that Halo is a spiritual successor to Marathon. Story-wise, though, they're entirely separate.

As to encroaching goofiness in the C&C universe, alas I stopped paying attention after Red Alert (1) so I'll have to stay quiet on that.

yeah, to be honest it's just best to try and ignore the storylines before you get a headache, expecially the red alert universe
