Can't I be both? Hardcore game when I get off work, and then work my ass off the next day.

As much as I appreciate the fact that this isn't the "Hurr Wii iz 4 kidz" whinge fest that I was expecting. I have to say its almost inflammatory in the opposite direction.

If you'd like I could make a contraversial statement proving that you can be both a hardcore gamer and a success in life.

Here goes...

Shia Le Bouf considers himself a hardcore gamer and he is also a success. Regardless of what you personally think of him(or the movies he's been in), someone who has played major roles in a number of hugely popular movies alongside the incredibly famous Harrison Ford and the incredibly sexy Megan Fox, is definitely a success.

This. The label war is becoming increasingly retarded, lets stop feeding into it please.
I know, I like both casual and hardcore games.

amazing isn't it, that I can like both

But sadly its the same as fanboy wars, as long as assholes have internet connections and opinions, there will always be fanboy wars and hardcore/casual wars.

I really see no difference between Hardcore and casual gamers
They both play games alot and they both have fun so its stupid to use those labels
I guess the only difference would be that hardcore gamers sometimes take the games too seriously

Counter-question:
What?

See, what you've done here is make the mistake that being successful and having a hobby are mutually exclusive. They are not. Benjamin Franklin is a notable example suitable for the holiday (it's Independence Day here in the US), he was an avid chess player and tinkerer.

Agreed. I was about to concur with the OP (something along the lines of "will it make any difference?"), but the inferred statement that "hardcore gamers" have "no life" was tremendously stupid.

I'm not sure. I think games were better when it was a less mainstream culture, and when companies were more concerned with making a great game, than trying to hit demographs and open up gaming to grannies and babies and the cat.

as long as the proper games keep rolling out, and people don't try to convince me i'm going to love (for e.g.) guitar hero, i'm not fussed.

I am a success in life, because that is my opinion.
I could live in a carboard box with a public shower and fruit trees next to me, that could be "success" for me, in my life.

Anyway, I don't care what game companies do, so long as they make intelligent and entertaining video games.

hard core doesn't sell its much easier to group people into sales groups....

i love retro i never see clever games like they use to only because companies have gotten bigger and...''new'' gamers don't care about retro.

its all about the now..=/
