I noticed that it wasn't on the news and it did not come up on the search, so i figured I'd post it.

For reasons not fully explained and still speculated with theories on why (with or without merit), Relic Entertainment has decided to close the Company of Heroes Online Beta, and shut down the servers on March 31st. There will be no continuation or final product. There will be no COHO cash refunds to those who have purchased items during the beta.

Instead of a release, they will patch the original retail version of the game, as well as offer those who registered to participate in the beta before February 1st a special offer of $5.99 on the retail version of the game, Company of Heroes Gold Edition.

It's a shame because this was originally touted as a free to play version, but they have their reasons for reconsidering. They say that with the countless hours of gameplay from participants and the micro transaction system, they have learned a great deal, which they will take with them when they make the next game.

Aw, that sucks.

I can't get my Steam copy of Company of Heroes to work properly, it won't display any unit models, not even on the lowest graphics settings. It worked the first three times I played when I bought it.

What? Aw damn, I've been having a lot of fun with the Beta. I guess I'll have to play the actual game now. I mean, I do own the retail game. Hell, I've owned it for over a year.

What a bummer.
