Complaining to Comedy Central

For the first time in my life I have writen a complaint to a company. I know, ive never really cared that much before.

The reason I did it was because today (in the UK) comedy central pulled its latest episode of South Park from tv due to threats of terrorism and heavily dubbed the American showing of the episode. (This seems slightly ironic to me considering the Cartoon Wars Episodes)

Because of this I emailed a complaint to the UK offices of Comedy central in the hopes that maybe others have already done so or will do and so the sheer number my help them to see that caving to some out of fear whilst quite happily alowing others to be ridiculed out with no problems (Buddah sniffed coccain twice and Jesus watched internet porn) is not helping an already difficult situation. Admittidedly the cartoon wasnt helping either but the way they have handled it made it worse

Please note this thread is not around the episode as a whole but around me complaining to them and my reasons why. Ive seen other threads based around the episode already (we even got quoted, wow!), this is simply me hoping others will complain to Comedy Central as well.

Caving into terrorism is reinforcing the belief that its right to commit terrorism.
As Kyle said in Cartoon Wars: "Yes, people can get hurt. That's how terrorism works. But if you give in to that, Doug, you're allowing terrorism to work"

EDIT:
If you do want to complain here are the links:

Yea American here, They bleeped Muhammad when they said it and they censored him with a big black bar. I don't know about anyone else but South Park has been getting a little stale over the last few seasons.

Can someone tell me the whole story here? What exactly got censored? I couldn't see the episode, it was pulled where I live, and it's not on their website either. How bad is the censorship at play here?

The episode beeped the word Mohommed, Blanked his image and then put a consitent beep over the summing up that south park likes to do at the end of every episode. I had to download a torrent of the episode to see it (im not supporting piracy but there wasnt a lot of choice) The incredible amount of beeping was just over the top but to remove it completly from other countries scheduled programming is mad considering everything else that south park has gotten away with

Doesnt matter if you like or hate south park, I think its more a matter of if this sort of behaviour is the way we want tv to go?

Holy mother of... Yeah, this is the kind of the thing that really pisses me off. I mean I like south park, but like you said that's not the issue at all. This is just ridiculous... They can't even show it on their own site!

At least you got to see the Episode, I tuned in tonight only to see them re-running the Sex Addiction episode. I wondered if it was just a mess up, then I come online to see they are refusing to air the episode. FFS!

I can't even watch it online due to my laptop being shite.

Edit: Obviously the OP and I are in the same boat, I meant the others who have at least been able to see a heavily edited version of the episode. This is madness. Terrorists have also threatened to attack the England-USA match at the world Cup, something tells me that is still going to go ahead though.

If i was the creators, who really don't care about the threats, i would put up as many streaming of the full episode wherever i could. Then they would probably be breaching contract tho and could get fired.

Seconded...

Caving to death threats and terrorism makes these things a legitimate way to bring about political change. If it brings regular successes then it would be far more likely that others, on seeing such success will emulate these actions. Given how those who carry out these death threats are patting themselves on the back loud enough everyone can hear, that means a lot of people will come away with the realization that death and terrorism threats is the right way to go.

It is why you have to take the firm, but sometimes stupid, stance of not giving into demands. That doesn't mean you don't negotiate (on the world stage, not so much on satire TV shows), it just means you don't cower in a little ball the moment the threats begin to fly!

I don't even like south park that much, the show has more failures then those sweet gems of success, but damn it... it is a SATIRE show, it makes fun of EVERYTHING! I wouldn't have it any other way and if you ask me, the more shocking the better.

That's fucked. I haven't watched South Park in ages, but Jesus tapdancing hogfucking Christ eating a Funion, that's a level of gutless censorship to which I wouldn't expect South Park to succumb.

Unfortunatly its not the creators of southpark that succummed and they were the ones directly threatened. It was Comedy Central at the last minute who hastilly censored everything they could and then banned any other future showings of it for fear of danger to their own offices. Matt and Trey planned to have the show aired without any censorship apparently and all the origional censoring has done is bring a bigger focus to the fact that they even showed Mohammed

That was probably the first part of the 2 episodes? The second part aired Weds in the US and was ment to air tonight in the UK.

Watched it on an upload steaming proxy, only thing censored was the black bar thing, so I'm thinking they knew CC was going to censor the image, but weren't expecting the name to be censored as well.

I also heard somewhere that they changed Mohammed to Santa Claus instead, thereby making the "goo" plot nonsensical.
