Could someone explain to me why integrated graphics aren't as good for gaming as a graphics card???

I made the mistake of buying my computer with integrated graphics. When I looked up if my computer can run my games like Civ 4, Can You Run It? says that everything is good enough except my graphics but when I look at the details everything passes. I just don't understand.

Because dedicated graphics cards have much faster GPU speeds (graphics processing units). Also there is more dedicated memory and more support for drivers on newer games.

EDIT: Integrated graphics sometimes do not support things like, pixel shaders, some 3d technology. If you have a desktop you could easily upgrade your graphics card.
