Oh, many a time. Recently I downloaded Avira Antivir, which is an excellent anti-spyware/virus/adware/everything program. It's free too.

Who hasn't?

Also, I'm sorry; I can tell you're new: Please use the "Search Forums" feature. This has been done before.

Just FYI.

A "do you have or ever had a virus" thread has not been done according to the search feature.

Although there is a reason why there have been no virus threads, they don't work out well.

I have never had a virus however I have had some spyware.

There was a "Virus Help" one, which was close enough.

On Topic: My sister's USB is a computer health hazard.

My conspiracy theory is: The computer companies secretly hire programmers to make these viruses, so that more people will need to buy their computers, and more often.

Why make a virus? I suppose it's fun to make one, but why then distribute it?

Spyware, I've had.

Viruses, not yet.

Well, aside from "Starforce Copy protection" which I'd class as virus ;)

I dont see why people make viruses, they don't get anything out of it exept, excuse my french, being a cock, i mean, if a family are struggling to get by, and they buy a laptop that they need for work, they could get a virus and it could get messed up, they just threw alot of money down the drain. [/end rant]
sorry, but this acually happened to my freind

well, as a cock I stuck a very pathetic easily detectable by pretty much anything virus on my old school's system and knocked the whole thing out for a few days and believe me it was worth it for sheer comedy value. all the course work was backed up because I told all the students what I was going to do (private school of about 60 people only about 12 doing GCSE/AS anyway so no coursework damage because I told them to back it up before hand) the only people it really bothered was the teachers and it taught them all a lesson before then they banned students from putting passwords on their accounts and thought they were too godly to even bother with a virus scan every now and again.

I've had 1 in the past but you really do have to be an idiot to get one. if a friend starts an MSN convosation with "my bum new years eve!!!" in may don't accept it.

Mass chaos is funner, especially if you single-handedly created a program capable of spreading across multiple computers able to kill each one after spreading...

Power rush?

zirnitra make a very good point
these MSN viruses can be uncovered easily, but if you go to the link, it's a pain in the arse.

the way to avoid them:
1) If you get a message with a link, such as "Wow, is this you? http://blahblah", message them back. Say "Where did you find it". If you get a reply, it's usually going to be a genuine link (I can't cover for friends actually sending you virus links)
2) Check if the person is actually online. I know there are people who enjoy the privacy of "appear offline", but getting a random link from an offline contact is usually a dodgy sign
3) Make sure you tell them they have a virus. Next time they log on, tell them what was sent etc.
4) If YOU get the virus, as soon as you know, change your name to "I HAVE A VIRUS! DON'T OPEN ANY LINKS FROM ME WITHOUT ASKING ME WHERE THEY'RE FROM". This cuts the pass-on rate down majorly. Again, not my fault if your friends still open the link.

that is all.
