Well Escapists, to make a long story short I love conspiracy theories. I don't buy into them of course as they are, almost exclusively, so stupidly convoluted that they are beyond implausible. However, I am fascinated with those that do believe and with fiction that features such theories and plots prominently.

So can anybody offer any suggestions for any conspiracy theory oriented video games I could sink my teeth into? I've already played Deus Ex and Human Revolution (haven't gotten round to Invisible War yet) which I realize are the obvious first choices. I'm also ok with games like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines which, while not conspiracy theory oriented per se, still provide the kind of treacherous, cloak and dagger atmosphere I'm looking for.

Hmm, this might not -quite- fit the bill, but go play Spec Ops: The Line if you have a chance. Though not exactly a conspiracy theory, its full of the altered perceptions, difficult decisions and fatal assumptions that are typical of conspiracy theories in general, you might enjoy the experience. Easily the game that messed with my head the most.

On top of that, though I haven't played them, I've heard good things about Condemned and Condemned 2, they seem to have what you're looking for.

That's about all I have for now, will post more if I think of them.

Mirror's Edge
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Assassins Creed (series - first one most of all though)
Syndicate
GTA IV

Interesting selection I guess with them all featuring quite different gameplay and plots. There are numerous games with "in" references to quite a few different theories, conspiracies and secret societies, if you know what you're looking for.

Maybe not straight examples but - The Legacy of Kain series. It's on GOG, the whole of it aside from Blood Omen [footnote]although they are trying to get it there. It's still on PSN, though. And on an abandonware website, however it's missing the cutscenes. Which are on YouTube.[/footnote]. It has your dose of shadowy manipulators - you get more plot twists the further you go along. "You don't know where [the Heart of Darkness] is, do you? ...you never looked for it." Hoo, boy.

Not much, but still - Arcanum. The Half-Ogre Island sidequest in particular.

I played the series as it came out, and I think playing Blood Omen first made the experience much more enjoyable.

OT: Replay Deus Ex a few more times. You'll find stuff that you haven't found before if you play differently. Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have much to offer. I know some games that have a conspiracy subplot, but not anything worth mentioning.

Many thanks for the responses. I'm familiar with some of the suggestions but there's some new stuff too. I'll have a look at the other suggestions, I've heard good things about Mirror's Edge and Syndicate in particular. Thanks again for your help
