Could Skyward Sword be another Other M?

I've been playing Zelda games for as long as I can remember. I have played them all and there has never been a game that i haven't liked. I have also been playing Metroid for a very long time, but there is one game I haven't played. Don't get me wrong, i'm looking forward to playing Skyward sword and i'm sure that it will be a good game, but there is a few things that i am worried about. I don't mind the art style or that Villain that everyone is getting pissed about, but the way that they talk about back tracking and not as much free roaming as before. Is anyone else worried about Skyward Sword?

Not really, it's being developed by Nintendo themselves rather than passing it on to another developer.
The big N knows how to take care of its own material.

As long as Link doesn't get crippled by massive levels of insecurity and retconned trauma we're probably good.

Not really. It kind of similar to how people react to Wind Waker as in everyone went mad at the new style but once people actually play it for themselves the game is just as good as the past LoZ games.

Why would it? Link doesn't speak and the impression I got from the trailer is that it follows the same formula it always has.

Also, like others have said, Ninty are taking care of this, so it isn't going to be bad.

Honestly I don't feel nintendo provides the same quality games they used to I find more and more they do decent but never exceptional work and to be honest I think this one will be a brighter toned twilight princess with nothing all that speacial to be noted

on a related note I wish they would stop rehashing ocarania of time I know its the best game of all time on most lists but jeez the 3ds ver has to be like 7th version they have made

Didn't you see the demo when you see Link hiding under a table biting back tears to avoid Ganon? Or when they introduced the hide and seek minigame where Link will sometimes get emotional in a dungeon and need to find Navi for a hug. Oh, Navi's back and can hug people apparently.

I would love if they actually gave Link some personality, even more so than they did in Wind Waker. So I would like for it to be an Other M style revamp, but unfortunately the trailers and info don't sound like it's going to try anything nearly that interesting. Of course, I'm sure I'll play it and enjoy it either way.

It could be another Other M, but let's wait and see, it could be another Metroid Prime, turning backtracking into a design strength. I really can't see this being a bad game.

Haha, I knew he would have to be mentioned sooner or later.

To be honest, I kind of like him (from what little I have seen). I know he's a bit... "Colourful"... But he definitely appears to be deliciously evil and the boss battle with him looks really cool.

More on topic: I have no fear that Skyward Sword will be another Other M. It was pretty clear long before Other M came out that it was going down a very unwelcome route.

I don't think Ninty will mess up Skyward Sword after the ultimatum which Miyamoto issued about the game. From the first screens, I'm really looking forward to it, with the mix of Wind Waker exploration and the sword combat.

Which, in itself isn't a bad thing. If you think about it, this wasn't much retconned at all. Samus was carrying a lot of emotional stress with her. Being that she lost her parents, her adopted parents went missing along with every other chozo, she frequently faces what almost killed her when she was young and various other things.

It is was just incredibly poorly executed with messages getting mixed up and things not coming across the way they planned.
Well, I'll agree with you that it's poorly executed :)

EDIT (To better reflect my position haha):

And at the risk of the whole flamewar thing popping up again, I don't really think it makes since to make Samus' mental state the subject of a game, because she's sort of like Boba Fett in that she's also an example of how less can be more in characterization. Both characters have very few lines, but people extrapolate a pretty consistent set of traits from those lines and those actions. It doesn't make sense to make a game about Samus coping with mental trauma any more than it makes since to make a movie about Boba Fett coping with mental trauma. That's not to say that no game should be made about a character overcoming his/her mental blocks - it's just that Metroid is a very strange choice for a franchise to do that with.

Nope. Why? Because Skyward Sword isn't in the hands of Team Ninja, the guys responsible for this:

Other M was.

Most likely not. Considering Skyward Sword's huge development time, alot of love was put into this baby.
