Now i've heard my fair share of stories and most of them have been about how good the PS3 is. Im curious has anyone had any problems or major issues with the PS3 so far, not like nit picky things that are just tiresome. I've had my X-box for 2 years now and i've definently had my fair share of problems with it, im asking this because in a few monthes im getting my own PS3 and i'd like to know what im up against as far as big problems. Of course I also want to hear some of the good stuff about it but thats a slippery slope because i've heared soooooo many good things about it that im wondering if its got any problems at all.

It plays blu-rays (which I love) and has games like inFamous and Motorstorm.

But it costs a heap and you have to install games. I recall getting so bored waiting for DMC4 to install I ordered a pizza and it still arrived before the game finished.

A friend of mine with a 60GB launch PS3 recently started having some problems, but I know two more with launch models who still have none.

I don't know anyone with a PS3 who isn't happy with it, while I know plenty who are unhappy with their 360s.

Multiplatform titles have a depressing tendency to be inferior than the 360 version, but that's about it. The only other negative I can think of is waiting for installs, which can be measured in geological time.

The latter is more tedious than a real problem, the former isn't true. When you factor in Xbox Live Gold simply for the privilege of playing online a 360 costs twice as much over the life of the console than a PS3, and that's not factoring in that you'll easily go through two 360s while a PS3 is still going strong.

PS3 is the cheapest of the 3 consoles as far as long term cost goes. With the Wii you end up paying a bunch for all the accessory controllers, for the 360 you're paying for stuff that comes included with the PS3 and for being able to play online.

If online matters to you, PSN isn't as good as Live connection wise. This also means that downloads take considerably longer.

Lack of backwwards compatability is annoying too.

It has some inferiorities to the 360, but really, they're minor things. the Ps3 has a great lineup of games, a great community, a good online store, a various assortment of other stuff that I personally enjoy like blu ray and internet access (which kept me sane when my laptop broke) and etc.

It's a worthwhile purchase.

Pro's:

Great exclusives
Free online service
You can swap the PS3 hard drive with PC hard drives, vastly improving space (I have a 400 gig hard drive in mine :D) - However thats only for the "phat" models.
Fantastic PSN games.
Plays Blu-Ray

Cons:

Online service isn't as good as XBL or Steam
Games require install times, but the install times are fairly short. Devil May Cry 4 is an exception rather than the rule.

Thats what I gathered from my 2 years with my console.

Being able to play games from previous generation consoles.

I may be wrong, but I think PS3s are still backwards compatible with PS1 games.

pros-GREAT exclusive titles and great graphics for said exclusive titles, free online, blu-ray,VERY low failure rate, thats all i can think of right now.

cons-even though online is free, it is definitly not as good as Xbox Live, costs a lot to buy,no more backward compatability, installing games is very annoying, the updates take much longer to get then xbox live updates, yeah thats about it.

overall a PS3 is a good buy but get uncharted 1 & 2 otherwise you'll be missing out on the PS3s greatest series.

I personally don't own a PS3, but speaking from an outsiders point of view:

Pros: Bluray, lots of power and the ability to play PS2 games.
Cons: Uninteresting titles of it's own, a controller I just don't understand, high price and installing stuff

Most of the cons are purely a matter of oppinion, but Blu-ray is definately a huge pro.

Pros
- Free Online Play
- Built in Wireless Connection if, like me, you don't CARE about online play
- REAL HD support, not that impostor that the 360 has.
- Plenty of decent exclusives
- Certain titles (Red Dead Redemption, Arkham Asylum, FF13, Dragon Age) are notably better on the PS3.
- Built in Blue Ray Player

Cons
- It's fairly expensive
- No more backwards compatibility sucks
- Wireless is slow and unreliable for the hard core online gamer
- Is a Heat Monster and a Power Suck to the extreme

Cant play music while gaming (I believe MS patented it or something)
No PS2 BC
Freezes while gaming sometimes

backwards compatability is the ablity for a console to play games from past gaming consoles, like PS2 or PS1 games and like how the Xbox 360 can play most games from the orginal Xbox.

With some. If you are particularly bothered, here is a list:

Backwords compatibility is PS3 playing PS2/PS1 games. New PS3 don't have that. This is why I went out of my way to get the MGS4 80G package. It is nice being able to use my PS3 for any game within PS's history. (I only brag because people called me foolish at every turn when I made the purchase.)

The downloads really ain't that bad. I really have no problems with Playstations online functionality. Installing games is not really an issue and some games haven't ever had me have to do it. Even then, it isn't THAT long. If your times seriously are long enough to order pizza and start eating I would point more at ISP than anything else or credit your pizza delivery guy. I can't think of a time where an install took over 10 mins.

The online capabilty may not be as good as Xbox's but it is decent, could be worse, and definatley well past worth "Free".
