Here's the picture:

I am gonna say this, I am disspointed Call of Duty is bringing back World War 2 and not Battlefield and yeah they covered World War 1 but still I much prefer a Battlefield 1944.

It will be advanced warfare in WW2 setting.

WW2 setting can not make game magically better nor it can make level deisng a good, nor it can make gameplay not QTE fest scripted and dumbed down.

Honestly I'm fine with this decision since I'm sick of the futuristic warfare crap after Black Ops 2. Then again my brother and I came up with an idea of why not just have each game be each war dating back to the Revolutionary War?

I guess after a decade they've come full circle and it's back to WW2. :p As someone not interested in online multiplayer I sometimes wish they sold the campaign separately for half price as admittedly they can be fun for an afternoon of mindless entertainment.

I think they tried that out for BLOPS3 for a bit on Steam.

OT: It would take a lot for me to care about this. New engine, different experiences (can we finally play as a German now?), and a non completely fucked up multiplayer. I swear to God, if they somehow manage to bring supply drops back to this game...

Have you forgot that EA used to ape what Activision did with their shooter franchise, and vice versa? I'm sure we'll get another BF in WWII setting eventually.

I wish they'd remake CoD 1 in the newest engine rather than making a completely new game. I really liked CoD 1 with how it had some pretty intense moments, health packs so you can't just hide and get back to full health, and how you weren't always some badass mowing down troops like it was nothing. (most parts were, but some parts you were just a random soldier at the right time and place.) Also, barely any cutscenes and no QTE's...

After all these years COD is finally going back to WWII.

No more jetpacks, sliding, laser guns, and ridiculous abilities. Just you and your good old M1 Garand

Will this win your heart back to the franchise, or is it too late?

What are the four sequels gonna be called? WWII Part 2, etc?
That's assuming that there are sequels. Right now, Black Ops is the only CoD series that's part of an ongoing continuity, whereas Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, and Infinite Warfare, are all stand-alone.

Um, I think there's already more than enough threads on this, you don't need to create another one just to ask whether this will win us back to the franchise.

So, will it win my heart? Dunno - it never had my heart to begin with. I played some of the original WWII CoD games, found them reasonably enjoyable, didn't play any games after that (I actually own Advanced/Infinite Warfare, but they're on a long 'to play' list). But I'm apathic towards it, as:

-Sledgehammer did Advanced Warfare, which, not playing it aside, was a game I did watch a playthrough for. Honestly, I thought the game was decent, narrative-wise. Nothing special, but still decent. I'd have preferred Sledgehammer continue on with that setting.

-I just don't care about WWII anymore. I had my fill of MoH/Battlefield/CoD back in the day, I don't need a refill, especially after playing Rising Sun and Airborne this year - not bad games, but very average ones. Thing is, there's plenty of interesting stories you can tell about WWII. Last year, I saw Hacksaw Ridge (an excellent movie), this year, I saw Their Finest (decent, enjoyable, very original concept), and we have future releases like Dunkirk and Pegasus Bridge, and while I've probably missed it, 'Land of Mine', which touches on the war's aftermath in Denmark. This is also coupled with reading 'All the Light We Cannot See', which is a very solid piece of fiction. So, yes, WWII can be used as a good backdrop for good stories...

...and I'm not counting on CoD to deliver it, because WWII games usually have poor narratives, with barely fleshed out characters (at least in my experience) and plots that go like "greatest hits of WWII, or at least the European and if you're lucky, Pacific theatres). If we're lucky, the game might allow us to play as the British and Soviets again. Heck, it could even be super daring and allow you to play as the Canadians and Polish (hello, CoD 3). But I'm not counting on that, and if I did, I'm not counting on anything other than the 'greatest hits' format to play out again - D-Day, Stalingrad, etc.

Maybe there is hope. Even if it does focus only on US soldiers, that could serve as a focused story, but even if that's the case, it'll almost certainly be in the same locations we've seen a million times.

-So, no, I'm not psyched for it. This really does feel like Activision throwing up its hands and going back to WWII, because of a stream of complaints about futuristic settings. And, look, I can get that - this was a series that started out striving to portray some level of realism in war, starting with a historical conflict, and then branching out to operations that mirrored the War on Terror and events such as the invasion of Iraq. And like I said, I'm just over WWII. Even a CoD set in WWI, as much of an aping of Battlefield 1 as that might be, would still be more interesting.

Well, that's just me. At the least, this thread allowed me to get that off my chest.

CoD is going to have to a massive overhaul to their online system for me to even remotely care.

I finally broke this year after and told my buddies that I'm done. Every single online game ends the same way:

1. I dominate. I was the host and therefore a God amongst boys. Unless you puny mortals happened to get behind me and fired three or four shots into my back before I noticed (and even then, 50/50 shot), I am untouchable.

2. I get dominated. I get behind the guy and put three or four shots into his back. He turns around and shoots me in the face. I have ran into the host and therefore I had no chance.

I don't know if all the games were like that and I didn't notice because the fun outweighed the bullshit or if it has just gotten worse over the years (or probably a combo of the two) but until the online isn't broken for the host, I don't really care what the Call of Duty series does...
