Not by a long shot but the Dinosaur Jr. cover of Just Like Heaven by The Cure...

IMO a lot more passion to the song...

Hurt by Johnny Cash
All the covers Nirvana did
also this...

Edit: also Sonic Youth's cover of Superstar by The Carpenters...

I found that it just expressed and explored the emotion and tone of the song a lot better through both the singing and instrumentation...<.<

This is a thread for cover songs you preffere over the original.

Enjoyed the guitar and chorus, though the pointless scremo is like uggh

Anyway: Endeverafter -poison, elle golding - your song, Children of bodom - the final countdown, Glee Cast - hey soul sister just a few I can think of.

Rufus Wainwright's cover of Hallelujah is, in my opinion, the state the song was made for. I quite enjoy Leonard Cohen's singing, but that song, at least, is much better this way.

Wow. OP, that is just terrible. Bad enough when it was only a few days ago, but a few hours?

Five Finger Death Punch's version of Bad Company is, to me, infinitely superior than Bad Company's Bad Company

how do you embed videos by the by?

I think the Streetlight Manifesto cover of Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard is better than Simon and Garfunkel's version.

I agree with the comment about Jimi Hendrix version of 'All Along The Watchtower' above.

Also, Metallica's covers of Diamondhead's 'The Prince' and 'Helpless' are infinitely superior to the originals. Hell, almost every song on 'The Garage Days Re-revisited' was better than the originals. (It was a album of covers, if you're wondering.)

Whoa... that's kind of freaky: not only did we have the same thought, we posted it at the same time!

I thought of another one: Fear Factory's cover of 'Cars' by Gary Numan is better, too.

And again, I bring up Van Canto- an A capella metal band. Yes, you read that right.

First that comes to mind is Johnny Cash's version of 'Hurt'.

Heads and tails above NIN.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I prefer Lacuna Coil's version of enjoy the silence (vs the depeche mode original) I love both versions, I just think that LCs has a more desperate and darker vibe which I think fits the message of the song better.

Also; Breakfast at Tiffany's by Moxy Fruvous.

I now there are plenty other covers out there which I prefer but those are the only two I can think of that I know for sure that I'd heard the original first.

I don't know if people will agree with me, but I love this version better so much.

EDIT: Oh and Reel Big Fish's cover of Take On Me
