Song covers are many and, while most are generally pretty forgettable, there are a few out there that manage to be just as good as the song they're covering. In some rare cases they even go so far as to surpass the original song in quality. This thread is about those covers.

What song covers to you like more than the original?

There was an advert for a TV drama that had a cover of 'every breath you take' (originally by the police) over it:

I love how haunting it is.

My Bloody Valentine's cover of Louise Armstrong's classic song "We have all the time in the world".

:')

So beautiful...*sniff*

I like Korn's version of "Another Brick In The Wall" more then Pink Floyd's version. Dose that count?

Leonard Cohen writes awesome songs, but I never did care for his singing style. I suppose he's an acquired taste.

Tom Jones however, is the man.

Also, in before Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's Hurt.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Personally I've always preferred Don Henley's version of "Everybody Knows" to Cohen's.

Covers I like better are not necesarily better versions so I'm just gonna go with those I like better to make this easier for myself.

Cases in point:

Behind Blue Eyes by The Who.
I really find listening to the Limp Bizkit far more enjoyable.

Breaking the Law by Judas Priest.
As much as how this classic song roxorz my boxorz, I heard the Firewind cover which has a tad more melody. Those adlibs just came as a second nature to me now.

Those two are the ones that hit me right now.

I rather like that, another example of his songs working well with other artists.

His singing just seems so lifeless to me. He does have it in him to be a bit more upbeat though, to be fair to the bloke.

Also, nice avatar, got a lot of time for Clint Eastwood.

I don't really listen too many covers but Hendrix's version of All Along The Watch Tower is better than Dylan's but they're completely different so it probably depends on what type of music the listener enjoys.

I also like Feeder's cover of R.E.M's Everbody Hurts probably not as good, but it's still a really nice cover.

Anthrax's cover of Joe Jackson's "Got the Time" kicks so much ass, I am surprised it is even possible:

A shout-out must also go towards Nightwish's excellent cover of "Over the Hills and Far away".

I like this version better than Billy Idol's Rebel Yell. It updates it where its needed and leaves the rest alone.

I chose the Ironman fan video because they never did make a music video for it.

Soundgarden's One Minute of Silence clearly better than John Lennon's Two Minutes of Silence (-Yoko's gay commercial minute of silence)

Jennifer Saunders' cover of 'Holding out for a Hero' from Shrek 2.

Best scene in any animated film, ever.

Pretty much anything that Apocalyptica covers.

For example:
<spoiler=Cover of One by Metallica>

pretty much what I say every time this thread pops up
