I'm pretty sure everyone knows about Crackdown and if you don't, here. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfb4U9m_2Fc] It's a great game and I recommend it.

But that's not what I came here to talk about. I came here to talk about the sequel that was announced at E3 this year. I've been reading up on this game, and I'm not sure what to think. It looks like it has identical gameplay and graphics, but everything is somehow different. I've noticed that instead of fighting criminals, you're fighting monsters. This really doesn't seem like a job for a policeman. It really has nothing to do with the first game at all except for the fact that you're a super powered cop. This could be either a good thing or a bad thing, seeing as it's straying from the first game, but the first game really didn't have much of a story to stick to. I think that it's just an attempt to change things up a bit and make the gameplay less repetitive. One of the faults of Crackdown in itself is that it was very repetitive and got to the point where it seemed like you were doing the same things over and over again. I like how the addition of mutants looks like it will switch things up, but really it's completely unfaithful to the original. I'd just like to get other opinions on it.

My thoughts:
It looks decent.
I liked the first, but I know the second one won't beat it.

First, please don't use topic titles that only have the names of a game, it just pisses me off to no end and doesn't show what exactly you want to discuss.

On topic: I think it won't be that bad, from what I gathered the mutants/monsters are just another group. You will still be taking down gangs.

To me Crackdown is just Halo+GTA+Mercenaries 2. Not saying that's bad but that's about all there is to it.

Although jumping around like some anthropomorphic jackrabbit is fun.

MAYBE IF THEY RELEASED A PC PORT HLURHBURGHR but no fuck those horrible PC elitists, no game for them.

I've yet to see anything about the second - once I was told it would (again) be an Xbox exclusive...
Well, there was really no point in getting interested.

But I've heard a lot of good about the first and I'd still like to play it.

And I will also admit that fighting mutants or whatever does not sound as fun as fighting criminals.
PC ports don't work for every game. Crackdown 2 seems like it would just be better on a console.

I agree with podafoo but I still say Crackdown was a repetative borefest of unoriginal shit and Crackdown 2 I'm guessing is related to Crackdown because at one point in the game you unintentionaly unleash a horde of mutants into the city and I'm guessing it just got worse in Crackdown 2. And wouldyoukindly99 was right aswell, jumping around like an anthropomorphic jackrabbit IS fun...

I read the Game Informer preview, and I hope the graphics from the screenshots are placeholders and not what the team actually wants. I'm getting tired of lazy developers using "cel shaded" graphics instead of taking the time to make it look halfway decent.

So you are saying cel-shaded art looks bad?

I point you to Windwaker.

I thought that crackdown was overhyped. I thought that the game was too easy and that once you beat one gang you have free rein of the city. the guns were good but only a few of them were good. jumping was fun but there weren't enough tall buildings and there wasn't much to do once you have leveled up. physics was funning, but losing experience for causing mayhem was lame. driving challenges were more or less useless. If they make Crackdown 2. still one man killing machine but against other killing machines and more inventive, I would appreciate it alot more. also, the city seemed really empty of things to do besides drive into gang members. maybe at least some interaction with the people would be interesting

So let me get this straight.
You're upset, because... there's too much change in the sequel? Seriously?!

Well then, go play Grand Theft Auto or something. If you can't appreciate change, don't expect to enjoy anything less than mainstream.

The story ending for CD 1 would lead you to believe you would either rebel, or continue the brainwashing.

but its neither.. (as far as we can tell, maybe it fits into the stories)

You can't make a proper sequel to crackdown, the ending basically says
giving all that power and making an authoritative force the de facto answer to any affray would make them worse than the crims they fight for civilians, since they end up ruling over the city with an iron fist, no competition since they are so powerful.

While not heavy on story, Crackdowns social message is that the civil servants you played as to protect the civilians forgot that they were the servants and believed themselves to be the masters

A sequel would merely have "escalation", rival corporation blah blah blah, if they made that then the net would bemoan the fact that the sequel is too much like the original.

Unfortunately the only real information as far as I can tell is this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywmQf9biNLc&feature=fvw] E3 trailer and a magazine article.

Well, yes I am. I know there has to be change in a game, but let's use Gears of War as an example. The first game was about several grizzled men shooting at aliens in the future with hardly a story. The second one comes around and it's still the same premise, several grizzled men shooting at aliens in the future, but it was updated. The gameplay worked smoother, the graphics were better, they tried to add a captivating story, and added new weapons and enemies. They kept enough the same that it still feels like a sequel without completely changing everything around. If Gears of War 2 had been set in World War II, it really would feel like a sequel at all, even if the gameplay is exactly the same.

So we're basing this off of a less then 5 minute trailer with no gameplay footage and only a small hint at what your doing.../sigh

Found the first one just a tad on the repetitive side if the sequel improves on this then it's a change for the better

I don't think you understand. That's really all I need to know what's going on in the sequel. There is no small hint in what you're doing, it tells you completely. You're obviously going to fight monsters in this game, and that's what I'm talking about.
