I never actually owned any of these back when I had my PS1, but played them at a friends house a lot. I just recently bought the second off PSN and have the first on my phone. Question is if these games are like the Spyro games where the first three on PS1 were awesome and all the ones after that are a complete disgrace or if some of the others are actually good. Thanks!

Crash Bandicoot left Naughty Dog after the PS1 days and was sold to Activision...which is the same thing that happened to Spyro...so yeah...

Honestly, just pass on anything past Warped.

The first 3 games are great and have aged remarkably well. They look more like the first titles to come out on PS2, rather than on PS1.

Um...

Crash Bash was not what I would call a bad game thougt.

Twinsanity is probably the closet to the originals you can get in the series that are not naughty dog, pretty good if a little in the short side...

The rest are definitivly in the midly mediocre side thougt...

I never called them bad, but judging how the OP felt about Spyro's post-Insomniac outings, I advised him to just stick with the older ones.

Ok...

Well if you want to stick to the "Safe" side, then yes, pretty much dont ever leave the Warped/CTR (Are we including this one right? I mean it was from naughty dog as well) era.

Oh lord I loved those games as a kid, that and Croc was my gaming Childhood! To answer your question there was a decline in quality, Crash became more of a bunch of minigames and after that I left to never return to the franchise. I'm surprised I haven't seen a new one in ages, I'm sure those games would make money from both kids and the nostalgia crowd.

EDIT: For the rest of this thread I request this music is played through your speakers.

yes 1, 2 and 3 are the best Crash games in my opinion i also played Crash Team Racing to death too (Naughty Dog made this game too if i remember correctly) Naturally with Crash team racing is if you want a plat former give it a skip since its a kart racer. I did also enjoy Crash Twinsanity though with the silly humor it had, im just a giant kid at times :D Haven't really played the other ones so i have no idea what there really like but from what other forum posters are telling me im not missing much.

Yeah, I include CTR since it was made by Naughty Dog (and shows), but the OP never really made a reference to that sort of thing. He was asking for a comparison between Crash and Spyro, which I assumed meant that he was primarily concerned about Crash as a platformer (since no comparison can be drawn to CTR and anything with Spyro). I actually think that CTR was better than Mario Kart at the time. Finding the best way to jump and power slide so that you could turbo your way through a level offered a level of depth Mario Kart didn't offer.

By the way, why do I feel like I'm under interrogation here? lol

I'd argue Crash Bash is a good party game, and Crash Team Racing is pretty good as far as Mario Kart clones go. Twinsanity wasn't too bad either, but the others aren't worth it.

Personally, my advice is to play the first three for definite, then play Crash Bash IF you like party games, CTR IF you like racing/Mario-Kart-esque games, and Twinsanity only after seeing a Let's Play of it and deciding if it's worth your own time. As for Spyro, the first three are awesome, and Enter the Dragonfly wasn't too bad, but the rest basically took a massive shit on the franchise...

Okey... No you arent under any kind of interrogation I dont know why you had that idea lol xD.

As for the CTR vs Mario Kart... I dunno, I enjoined both games. Except CTR was my childhood one so... it naturally wins but only because of that.

Still Mario Kart 64 is just badass. Besides, it DID had some "depth" on it, in the form of powerslides... I kinda liked it. Not sure if more than CTR but I liked it :)

Yup. The first three Crash games are fantastic just like the Spyro games. CTR and Crash Bash were also pretty cool, but those are more party games. And as for as I know, Spyro and Crash both died when the next generation started and I refuse to believe people that say there are still sequels being crapped out.

Hey man, come on. Crash Team Racing was an excellent cart racer too and Crash Bash was the best multiplayer brawler on the PS1.

OT: Yes, OP. All the PS1 era games are worth playing even today. I don't even want to talk about what happened to Crash once he was sold off to Activision. They just didn't give the game that spark that it originally had. And seriously, the fur was repulsive.

Hoooooooooly shit! Someone else is talking about Croc? I thought I was the only person in existence to have played that game. I'm glad I came onto the forums today just for that.

One day I'll see someone talk about Gex and then I'll feel complete.

First one is okay, second is the best of the series imho, third is fantastic, after that they're garbage.

Wrath of Cortex wasn't THAT bad, but it had ludicrous load times, which killed it.

From what I remember, Crash 1, Crash 2 and Crash 3: Warped! (or something or other) were awesome games. I never played any more Crash games after that except Nitro Kart, which was an OK-ish Mario Kart clone.

The original trilogy were excellent and CTR is a viable alternative to Mario Kart, I cannot say the same about Crash Bash however. Fans of the series will enjoy it, but it would be difficult to wrestle away someone from Mario Party for it (unless they are in that likes party games, hates game boards demographic). Overall, the entirety of the PSX Crash library is worth a gander even if it is just to play Sony's answer to Mario and Sonic.
