so as i trawled weak and weary i happened upon the escapist. i had been to many a website in my internet career and seen many a forum yet this one surprised me. i had seen the typical garbage that was ordinarily posted in forums and none of them drew me to post in them. then i found intelligent insightfull comments on the escapist forums. were my eyes ddecieving me? they even used correct punctuation? even capital letters (occasionally ;-)?! well i signed up for my first and only forum account name and havent looked back. but now i find myself so invested in these forums that i find myself recognizing names and to a small extent personalities associated with those names. so i find myself wanting to find out more about you people. maybe turn the forum into more than just a sounding board but into an actual community, maybe have some communication outside of these boards.so i want to start asking people some basic questions, learning about you people. heres the first of my basic questions. what is your name? a simple question but i hope to start an actual community here, and this can be the first step. let me know what you think about the community idea and ideas about how we can achieve this lofty goal. ill even introduce myself to start things off on a personal note thanks,
Josh w

"they even used correct punctuation?"

Some of us even capitalize!

It already is a community. The real trick will be maintaining the level of quality as the forums get bigger.

A thread where people can share their Xboxlive tags and SteamIDs might be a good idea. Sadly my laptop does not run any games anymore so I am kind of out.

well, i certainly would be interested in anyone on here wanting to play online games together as you seem much more intellegent than most of the neanderthalls on live or in most online games, with almost anything i use the name nightmare gorilla, on live i had to scruntch it to fit so my handle is "nightmaregorila" but hey anyone who has live and wants to add me is more than welcome to. as for giving out my name it's joe

the thing is thats kinda what a forum is already, a community, sure it aint family but we do kinda get to know one another, i consider it more like a classroom you'll learn to like the guy who sits next to you more often other people you won't recognize anywhere and still more people will just show up, sleep, and go home.

I do not have an Xbox. But you can be certain that anywhere you see the name Girlysprite, it's gotta be me.

The community is already here. No need to force anything. Things are taking seed and people are already developing kinships with eachother. I agree that seeing an organized gaming event from time to time would be nice, though I think that this board's tastes are too diverse to settle on one format/genre of game.

My mummy says I'm not allowed to give out my name to strangers unless you promise me a cookie.

I think a cross console Escapist clan/guild would be awesome. The great thing is that we have enough people from many other countries then lag and timezones wouldn't be too much of a problem. We could be the egg heads of the internet and spread our knowledge to the filthy uneducated fools that dominate gaming networks. However I don't think we need it just yet. Let the community grow and flourish and then make the clan.

Ooh, an Escapist gaming clan, sounds classy. I agree that we need a bit more time to grow though. But all we have to do is let Ben Croshaw make fun of games for another month or so and we should be fine.

There, FTFY.

Also, to help this along, since it has already sort of been helped along, see [a href=http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Escapist]http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Escapist[/a].

Ok, how about this. From this point on in the thread, we post our tags and whatever type of online community that we are a part of, and that way we can send each other friend requests.

To kick things off, my tag is "hobo aflame" on XBL. Put your name in the thread so I can tell you're part of the escapist community, then PM me on live.

That work?

(Also, fair warning, first person i see making fun of other peoples gamer tags is going to get spamed with PMs. This is a chance to make a good online community, and I don't want to see a bunch of E-Tards mucking it up)
