I've just heard the phrase "Crime doesn't pay" But why would i need money if i could just steal eveything?

Edit: Yes i have heard it before but i only just thought about it.

Because at one point, if you keep stealing stuff, you will get caught and go to jail.

If you commit a crime, more than likely you will be punished by the judicial system. Ergo, spending many months or years in jail for stealing thanks that you could have worked at a job for is not worth it.

I think the people were a little too concerned with the long-term and overall societal impact of crime, as opposed to the benefits the individual would gain.

Because crime is VERY VERY frowned upon, and everyone thinks criminals are twats, and tell their children as such via sayings like this.

It does pay if you can manage to get away with it, but very few do for any length of time, so think of being a criminal as playing the lottery, except if you lose your going to be spending time in a cell next to a guy called big Bubba

Of couse Crime doesn't pay. The police really don't want you to steal stuff. Like, they're really persistent.

They're like "Hey you! Stop stealing"

And you're like "Nooooooo"

And they're like "Yesssssss"

And so it goes on.

Stealing a bunch of money once and then paying for stuff "legally" is safer than stealing whenever you need something. At least if you can pull that one heist off properly.
Crime certainly does pay, the question is whether you're willing to sell out morals/principles for material gains and whether you're okay with risking your freedoms (and possibly your life).

You just heard it? Where have you been?

Also you need money because you cant steal dinner at a nice restaurant or your wives/gf's jewelry...women tend to leave you when the police come to confiscate their things you gave them, makes you look like a dead beat. Trust me you need money.
You could steal other things, sell those things, and buy the jewellery with the dirty money.
