Last Friday, I had taken my girlfriend to the movies with some borrowed money from my cousin. Of course, as most comedies nowadays, I was extremely sceptical with the outcome of this movie. I had read a few reviews before I had gone and it definately lowered my expectations. But, as being the guy I am, I reluctantly went with the decision my Significant Other had made and bought the movie ticket.

Before I flame this movie, I would like to say it has it's parts that are extremely comical and extremely memorable.

This movie is basically Austin Powers meets Buddhism/Hinduism meets Slapstick comedy. In the Austin Powers movies, there were the villains with names such as Dixie Normous and Ivanna Humpalot. In this movie, you can't go ten minutes without encountering them. At first they provide a few chuckles, but then it just gets annoying. It's as if they hired a third grader to think of dirty things and made things out of them. Another is the constant form of seventh grade perverted humor. It's funny, but it doesn't appeal to audiences out of the age of 20. It's just constant same jokes with different titles. Some stand out. For instance, one of the characters was talking about his Missionary parents, and Meyers asks him what they were before that. The man then replies Dog Stylists and Meyers then wittily replies "So your parents liked Dog Style but then they preffered doing it Missionary?" It was hilarious especially with the look the man had given him.

Another thing that really starts to annoy you is the predictability of this movie. It's as if they told the movie in the previews and you can quote some of the things that the characters are saying. Personally, I hate that. Some chick sitting behind was doing this and she thought she was cool as hell. Yeah whatever. Last thing I'm going to flame is that three times in the movie Mike would sing songs with his assitant playing acoustic and his BADDASS SITAR. The songs were bad choices and didn't fit the mood of what was going on. The sitar was awesome. I want one bad. Enough of that.

Time for the positive. When the movie was funny, you were laughing your ass off. Of couse this was only four or five times, but you have to give it credit. I can't give examples when because then it will totally ruin it. Towards the end you are going to be sitting there going "What the Fuck?" and laughing while. Those are my favorite times, and it was pulled off well. The pros of this movie balance out the cons and although it won't greatly appeal to a large audience, it will definately please the 12 - 25 year olds inbetween.

I don't expect this to recieve the cult-status that Austin Powers series did, and judging by how Cinema is these days, you could very well expect an epic fail for a sequel. This movie is a movie you can watch several times and it still won't get old, but the story should be stopped there.

I recommend this to any of you who have a dirty sense of humor, because appropriately titled "The Love Guru", you are going to be expecting quite a few sex jokes and maybe even a few Animal Planet moments too. This movie is one that can wait until the release of DVD, so dont go and spend $9 to see it in theatres.
