Crysis review
Crysis is the first person shooter created by Crytek studios. Sometime in the past Crytek decided that they wanted to collectively punish all the computers in the world and came up with the Cryengine 2.0.
Crysis was the game born out of that engine and followsthe story of American US Special Forces commando Nomad and the Raptor squad as they dick around on the war torn Lingshan islands in the Philippine Sea.
While you have a pretty wide arsenal at your disposal you will usually only be using two guns throughout the entire game, save for those instances where the game pretty much forces you to use another, while this does seem as a realistic and logical choice it alienates the idea of having the ability to choose different weapons.
A thing that stood out for me though was the ability to customize your weapon, that was a feature which really gave a sense of all-roundness to many of the weapons but was also partly the reason for me to get the feeling, that I didn?t need any other weapon than the standard North Korean rifle and the combat shotgun, since I could make them into practically any weapon I needed.
The AI stands out as smart and challenging though sometimes I do feel like that they are a bit too overpowered, these are usually the times were I have filled a N.K.S with one full round from the assault rifle. But I like the fact that it actually matter where you hit a person, instead of games like Half life 2 where a soldier would die even though you shot his foot.
In terms of gameplay Crysis is nothing but a pretty varied FPS? I mean you can choose to go Rambo and kill every N.K.S in sight or you can try to sneak around and only pick a fight when you have to. My personal approach was to try and kill as few as possible.
Crysis is a semi-free roaming FPS? I say Semi because as i said you may have the ability to sneak or go in guns blazing, but as the latter usually ends with you getting splattered against the wall, the gameplay usually ends up becoming Theif the dark project set in modern times, because the Rambo tactic requires a lot more preparation than just sneaking around the enemy emplacements.
This leads me to my next point: A lot of time seems to have gone into making the placements of enemies seem natural, and I must say that there was never a time in the game where I thought: Why the heck is there a patrol here?! Which is a good thing, since a lot of games suffer from what I like to call the: ?shoot-em up syndrome?
The graphics in Crysis are PRETTY and I don?t mean pretty I mean STUNNINGLY good, this is of course for those people who actually wasted money on getting a monster computer that is able to run it on MAX, But that?s also one of the games bigger flaws?
Crysis feels like a graphic showcase more than an actual game; there is a lot of graphical power being shown off as well as two pace breaking modes: A tank battle and a VTOL retreat, both of which feels like they have been put in just for show. For me it feels like Crysis is missing something of its singleplayer part? But all in all Crysis is a good game which is at least a decent to good FPS? so
Buy it!
