Hey all recently I've been flipping through the Player's Handbook's of 4th Edition D&D and I've been wondering two things. For one what is the general escapists favorite class to play. Secondly what is the Escapists least favorite class to DM (If you DM).Doesnt matter what edition just matter's why. So whats your favored class.

I like playing as a Wizard because I like the idea of controlling the battle field from behind the scenes in the middle of the group being protected. I dislike DMing Battleminds (4E) just cause I feel that they can be too powerful as strikers.

I hate fighters. So naturally, I've played them in all but one campaign I've been involved in.

In the latest campaign (which seems to have been forgotten), I was playing a rogue.

Battleminds are defenders.

Personally, I liked playing my Barbarian followed by my Invoker.

I dislike DMing wizards. -_- I ended up having one of my players go 1 on 1 with a dragon and bypass all my cunning tricks and traps like they weren't even there.

I usually play as a rogue. I just like being a backstabbing, loot-hoarding bastard, I guess...

I´ve always hated DMing mages. Mostly because they keep messing up the flow of the game because they are constantly leafing though their books trying to find the correct spell!
Agreed, that might be the players i´ve had to deal with, but thay have tainted the class for me, forever!

EDIT: I normally play 3.5 and I´ve never DM´ed 4.0 so it might be different...

First character was a warlock, hated it- felt useless in any fight.
Second was a rogue, fun but I was too fragile.
Third is a fighter and I love it- right mix of toughness, damage and control plus being an inescapable black hole never gets old.

I love playing arcane spellcasters (wizards, sorcerers, bards, etc.), but usually end up playing a cleric.

I absolutely hate DMing for psions, at least in third edition, because they can just pool all their points and cast their most powerful spells several times. Really removes the tension from more dangerous encounters when they can spam their best spell 3 or more times in a row.

I've never tried table top D&D games, but in regards to the PC versions, I'm invariably a rogue in my first play through.

While I haven't yet played D&D, the 2 classes I'm interested in playing (One I have backstory for, the other is just there to be awesome):

One with backstory - Barbarian

One to be awesome - Ranger (Original thought was Beastmaster with Bear ally, riding said ally while holding a spear & a warhammer to pick up enemies and hit them with the hammer. Then I found out that you couldn't ride a medium sized Bear, so I'm going to see if the DM I have in mind for the group will allow me a large sized bear in exchange for flaws in my character. Like blind in one eye, or something).

Don't really know what my favorite class is to play. I play a different class almost every game I join. It really depends on the personality of the character I create, I suppose. In Pathfinder I really like the Alchemist class, though it may just be that I'm really enjoying playing my current character who is a Goblin alchemist.

In terms of DMing classes, I just don't like power gamers in general. Any person who's building their character such that they break the game or someone who is all about the stats rather than the experience. I happen to play with an excellent group so I've never had to deal with that. I don't really have a least favorite class to DM.

Eh. I don't really like 4th Ed. Of course, I hate 3.5 because I've played it to death and then some.
But if I had to pick favorite class:

-Core 3.5: Sorcerer
-Prestige: Dragon Disciple (really? what else were you expecting?)

Favorite combination/multi-class (non-Gestalt): Monk-Sorcerer
Favorite (Expanded/Complete/Power Creep) class: Scout

Most hated class (concept): Ur-Priest
Most hated class (because it's been overused): Warlock

I dislike DM-ing for anyone with stealth abilities. They breeze by all my fights. Someone please tell me what to do!

The guy who is a rogue in my group gets to re roll anytime someone sees him. oh and his modifier for rolls is 18

I play 3.5 with a bunch of friends and we have a couple campaigns going on, in the main one I play Hobson, a large dim-witted half orc barbarian. He provides the main hitting force and damage soaking ability in the party. He's also my first character I've made so I thought it easier to make a dumb character who didn't understand much.

The retarded half orc barbarian is very typical but I always use it to make scenarios more interesting/funny, one time a party member sneaked up behind me (we were breaking into a building) I passed a listen check but failed a self imposed intelligence check, believing the party member to be an assassin I quickly grappled him and wrestled him to the floor telling the others "I got the assassin" to which one them said "It's Whyte" having noticed I was holding onto one of my friends the shocking realization hit..."Whyte's an Assassin!"

In another campaign I'm playing a Cleric named Tiberias, I wrote 3 pages of background on him and he's the main healer/support for the party and I'm rather proud of how I've made his character.

Finally there's a low powered Modern campaign we're starting, we haven't been told the detials of the story/setting so noone has been able to tailor any characters to fit. My character is a charisma type called Benny, he's a used car salesman (we get bonuses for normal characters instead of army guys, gangsters etc)

As a DM the party going through my campaign is rather balanced but their defacto leader is a Bard with insane points in bluff, it means social situations are a *****, but still amusing since we have a general rule of thumb that dicerolls alone are not good enough, if you want to bluff someone you have to think of a good way to do it.

Edition? Level? Other characters?
Almost all problems like this are either a mis-interpretation of a rule, or a character getting access to equipment far above their level. More info, and I'll see if I can help.

OT: Rogue or Cleric (3.5e). Access to lots of skills as rogue, or a huge variety of spells as cleric (once you hit mid levels). I find it far more fun than a straight tank or damage dealing mage.

As for DMing, I've been running games for a long time now, few classes bother me. I tend to just change encounters around to suit the party; I probably find it more frustrating when I overestimate the party strength and TPK them.

I'm a Ranger. I like the idea of being a self-made man, a survivalist, an archer, etc.

I always avoid magic-based classes. I just don't like magic.

Mostly play Lawful Good characters, either monks or palladins. Definitely prefer the feeling of monks in 3.5e; they get a ton of nice stuff, especially in higher levels. Play as a halfling with good enough wis and dex scores and you can easily fill in as a tank or offtank for the party.

My two favorite classes are fighter and cleric, because they both make me feel like I'm really critical to the survival of the party, especially if I'm the only one, I've played as wizards, bards, rangers, and one time as a rouge, but I always felt like I was being forced into a support role, I couldn't rush into the fray to help out my weaker party members or bring down some divine whoop ass when things started going south.

I hate DMing for a magic heavy party, mostly because encounters that I put a lot of time into crafting to be a fun and challenging experience got completely raped by some form of high level magic, or parties that have tons of magical items, at one point I set up an encounter where the party would have to work together to get across a large canyon, the wizard put the party into his portable hole and teleported over the canyon to the other side, I was so pissed that a Hellfire Wyrm came out of nowhere and killed the wizard and ate the hole.

Hmm my favorite class to play in 3.5 would be the factotum. I can fill any role and in combat my turn is over when I god damn say it's over and not an action sooner. Or a bard oh I love me some dragonfire inspiration/inspire courage twisting bard with high social skills and glibness for that extra oomph to make even the most outlandish lies plausible.

I hate dm-ing for monks, paladins, non-dungeoncrasher fighters and non-wildshape/non-swift hunter rangers since well they are quite bad at what they are supposed to do and either the encounters challenge the monk/pala/ranger/fighter and the rest of the party crushes it or the encounter challenges the rest of the party an the monk/pala/ranger/fighter is at best useless or at worst dead.

So yeah if someone wants to play one of those I guide them towards the unarmed swordsage for the monk, the crusader for the paladin, the warblade for the fighter and the swift hunter ranger/scout combo for the ranger.

Funny thing there: Rangers are divine spellcasters in 3.5

OT: Three way tie between Monks, Paladins, and Sorcerers.

When DMing, I don't like Rogues.
