There are spoilers.

Ok, so at the end of Dante's Inferno [spoiler/] Dante has a final battle with Lucifer, and through the battle, he learns this was all a trick to get him to get the devil out of his giant prison. Dante battles the real devil, and is able to kick the living shit out of him, ending in a explosion. Before finishing Lucifer once and for all, Dante is told that he is already dead, due to the stab in the back in the beginning of the game. Lucifer says because Dante is dead, he can't leave hell, but with the power of the souls he collected in his journey, he is able to force the devil into his giant tomb, and is absolved. He sees Beatrice one more time, and escapes hell, seeing a grassy mountain. He rips off his cross, which is now burnt, and it turns into a snake, and a laugh is heard, probably from the devil.[/spoiler]

So what is really next? I don't really see to much Dante can do now, since he already went through hell, and basically destroyed it. So what now?

It was Dante's Inferno. As in based on the first book of the divine comedy, which is three books. So the sequel will be Dante's Purgatorio. As in the the second book.

I hope they don't make a sequel. One butchering of a literary classic is bad enough.

If they did it would have to be purgatory which I would really hope does not get made. It doesn't make any sense to set the next game in Purgatory. You really can't fight any demons there seeing as hell is where the demons are at.

I just don't like how it is called Dante's Inferno. The only parts of it that have to do with the book is Virgil, the name Dante and Beatrice, and the Hell Dante wrote about. That is all that this game has to do with the book.

It is just a loosely adapted work. If that is the case why make the game in the first place if you aren't going to stick to the story?

The God or War game play style is rather in right now and so as long as Dante's Inferno is popular enough it is a guarantee. That being said, here is to hoping it never comes to that. As was stated before me, we don't need another butchering of a literary classic.

Dante's Inferno was terrible anyway. I just enjoyed God of War III so much more. Also, I don't think setting a game in Purgatory would be very interesting.

God of War III has the same flaws of Dante's Inferno. More deaths from platforming because of terrible camera angles. Junk puzzles.

Dante's Inferno has faster combat (60 fps) and more challenge, with actual enemy AI. It has a much better story. How God of War III is better is in having grander scale.

No. Just no. The puzzles in God of War III are one of the biggest strong points, as mentioned in almost every review, they are a step-up in difficulty and scope, they're awesome.

And what the hell does FPS have to do with faster combat? God of War III is visually stunning and I didnt see one frame skip. I'm calling xbox fanboy.

Dante's is a poor clone, I played about half way and got bored. A sequel should not be made.

I disagree, but I can certainly see where you're coming from. To each his own, eh?

It felt like the game pushed the sequel God of War II style, where it leaves the game open to the point of a sequel

Honestly, as Yahtzee says, it's an act that most often than not deserves a free ride to hell for doing that. God of War can get away with it because III was a fantasticly fantastic game that pushed the limits of a game and continued to go from there. Dante's Inferno, by contrast, was an average game that's extending the game where it could have just waited and came out to be a bigger game, we have the technology, we could do it, but they're part of EA and by extension obsessed with draining our wallets for their games, which is why I rented it for free and didn't pay a cent on the game

Are they really saying this is a video game version of the books? No. It's only based on it. Like how the starship troopers movie has little to do with the book.

I don't want to start a fight, but even if Dante's Inferno is a GOW clone, it's a good clone. And for people saying there butchinring the original story, it only uses the setting, the characters, and the simple idea. It's not like there saying this is how the story really was.

If there were to be a game set in Purgatory, I doubt it would be all that interesting, as the generally accepted image of Purgatory is just nothingness. As such, I haven't read Dante's Purgatorio, so I don't know how he describes it.

But yeah, I'd think as far as a sequel, he'd either have to tear up heaven (I don't know how well that would go over), or he'd have to go back into Hell for some contrived reason, which I would think would render the first game's events all but moot. Though, doesn't the first game end with the words "To Be Continued..."

I really hope there's never going to be a sequel.

There's only one Divine Comedy.
Actually the Divine Comedy is a collection of 3 books.

Inferno- Dantes journey through hell.
Purgatorio- Dantes journey through prugatory.
Paradiso- Dantes journey throught heaven.

So there is room for other titles.

Considering how it ended?

You have Satan in Purgatory in the form of a snake. That's a big hint at one of the epic baddies. Next, you have Angels that guard Purgatory. Dante has to fight across Purgatory because they(probably angels) view him as a 'not supposed to be there' type. Drop in four bosses, and in the end you help Satan get into heaven where the third sequel is in place.

The possibility is pretty open for what they could do though.

If that is the case than I consider none of the characters in the game the characters in the novel. I say that the Dante in the game is a new Dante, Virgil was called to help guide someone else through hell, and Beatrice is just a name of the woman.

I much rather would have seen them make a game based around when Virgil had to go through hell to bring something back for a sorceress. That way they could have incorporated the fighting element into it.
