I've recently acquired Dante's Inferno, and after only a few seconds with the game Dante felt like Kratos, through and through. I understand that there is a strong narrative behind the game, portrayed quite well, but I can't help but quit playing at times because I feel like I've done it all before.
Mind you, Lust and Gluttony impressed me, but could the game have tried a different gameplay type to make it more original? Keeping the story and intricate set pieces together while changing enough to bring fresh control ideas wouldn't have hurt.
The QTE's are unnerving too.
The question I'm coming to is: Is it right for games today to take large chunks of other games (See Darksiders and Dante's) as opposed to trying to add a little more to their genre?
