Recent Trailer for Dante's Inferno [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73599]

I hadn't actually heard about it until today, and apparently this title has been very lightly discussed throughout these forums.

I'm sure many of us would agree that there is little hope since it's coming from EA... but it looks like it'll be from EA Redwood Shores more specifically... which gives me hope since I personally loved Dead Space, and found it to be the best thing to come from EA since well.. probably ever.

The trailer only shows cinematics which look fantastic... great art, and looks like they won't be going light on the violence like in Dead Space, hopefully. But with no gameplay footage, it's hard to say.

I would expect it to be very much a typical, God of War-style (maybe more like The Force Unleashed) game. Probably won't be groundbreaking in any way except visuals... but I'm hoping EA Redwood will dish out another decent title this year.

Your Thought? Hopes? Expectations?

My thoughts:

Looks good, but I remember the Main Character being some random dude without weaponry. Now I know why they had to change this to make it an actual playable game. I'll probably get it, but I damn well won't be happy with the story.

looks good, but then again likely just a God of War clone, but instead of 2 swords that you can throw around like a human lawnmower, you get the Scythe of the Grim Reaper. and unless you are discounting The Sims and Maxis from EA, then you are wrong in that they havent made any good games yet, as The Sims 2 is spectacular

Wierd. All Dante does the the book is travel to hell under the protection of Virgil and make pointed political observations.

When did you hear about a dude without weaponry? And when did they change it? I just heard about this game today... I don't know how long others have known about it.

I personally will not buy or rent this game because I have read The Divine Comedy and know there is no way they could turn it into a game and still keep it as "Dante's Inferno". They may as well call it "Random guy running around in hell killing demons".

All I can say for sure is that it won't stay true to the book, though that may be a good thing. That aside I do not know if it will be a God of War clone or some sort of RPG or attempt at an epic story.

I'm betting that it will most likely be a God of War clone. EA has a knack for dishing out easy to make, cookie-cutter games... not in depth RPGs for the most part. But maybe EA Redwood will prove me wrong.

I wouldn't expect it to stay true to the book... if it did, there would be no gameplay... Aside from the title possibly pissing people off, I like the idea of creating a living world from Dante's Inferno.

it looks MEH and i doubt i'll ever feel somewhat tempted to check it out

probably another one of those God of War style killing sprees that bore me more than a narcoleptic sloth teaching botanic, except now bastardizing a timeless piece of literature

You are Dante, a veteran of the Crusades who must chase his beloved Beatrice and try to free her soul from Lucifer?s grasp. As your pursuit takes you deeper into the pits of Hell, you must battle ever more fierce and hideous monsters?while also facing your own sins, a dark family past, and your unforgivable war crimes.
EA managed to destroy everything that made the original poem enjoyable. Dante was not in the Crusades, nor did he have to save his beloved Beatrice (which I might add, never married and considered her to be his Muse) from Lucifer. Beatrice was his guide through Heaven, and Virgil, the Roman poet and historian, was his guide through Hell and Purgatory. Lucifer should have three heads, eternally chewing Judas, Cassius, and Brutus while being locked in ice. Dante should act more afraid and where is the gate with the famous line "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."? As for his sins, he has none. All he lacks is direction, hence the forest. His family was an old and reputable one, but had little money. Finally, the only war crimes this pious man had was siding with the Gluephs , which supported separation of church and state during the Florentine civil war. With the victory of the Ghibellines, the side that supported theocracy, Dante was exiled and that was when he started the Commedia, or La Divina Commedia (Comedy or The Divine Comedy, the latter coined by Bocciacco).

No, I do not want to see this game released.

Sorry for not elaborating. I meant the book it was just some random guy.

One of the better trailers I've seen in a while, and kind of looks like a cross between Castlevania and God Of War

Unfortunately, I never got the chance to fully read The Divine Comedy back in high school... we breezed through it... but I do know of course that this game is nothing like the story.

A better approach probably would have been to simply use The Divine Comedy as a reference rather than trying to rewrite it as Dante being some hero of the crusades trying to rescue his girlfriend from Lucifer.

Now that I think about it... this almost sounds like the premise of Ghosts n Goblins.... except you'll actually be going through hell.

Yeah. Good book. I don't see why Lucifer won't have 3 faes and them eating people. And if they don't... WELL I WILL BE ANGRY.

I think the best part of that is the ending. "Go to hell. Pre-order now"

Yea, the trailer insulting me certainly makes me want to pre order it haha. But seriously the game looks sick. I'm gonna have to read a few reviews before I consider it though.

Okay, I was a bit excited at the onset of hearing a game called Dante's Inferno. I thought, wow I'll get to see a massively intelligent game with a journey through psychological trauma and the philosophies of life that doesn't involve flickering lights with sword or gun at some point in my gaming career. However, I quickly realized it was from EA and suddenly noticed that the protagonist looked like a Samurai, Crusader, JRPGer hybrid and immediately ate a shit sandwich.

Thank God! I was worried that the greatest literature epics were never going to be abused and defamed by dirty profiteers with more respect for their wallets than the source material!

EA has suprised me before, things like dead space and mirrors eage were fairly origional, though I do still agree that it could be a rip off however I not sure it will be a God of War rip off, it just reminds me of Devil may Cry to much.

That aside I don't really think a 'living' world based on Dante's Inferno could really be done, it is after all set in hell.
