Coincidentally just after Nintendo put the Switch's online service behind a paywall, Namco-Bandai invited Switch owners to test Dark Souls online service.

(Currently, a free 7-day trial of Nintendo Switch Online is available as well!)

What do you think about all this? (because I'm still trying to wrap my head around it...)

PS: "Be one of the first to die". I can't believe I still find this motive funny.

Well I can only roll my eyes. Well, this game, old and remastered tho it might be, is a big draw to the platform. It has a dedicated fanbase and it will be downloaded. Players get the "benefit" of early access, they get free QA testers, so it's kinda a win-win (tho since one side is getting paid bucks, the probably do more of the winning).

Nintendo Online is a big disappointment. They have a fantastic hardware platform, a handful of big hits and some third-party titles behind them (remasters but whatever) but offer such a bad service....you'd think the big N would want to walk away with the "best console of the generation" title but they'd prefer the wooden spoon.

Dark Souls Remastered has a deathmatch mode, probably what you get to test out.

(I'd say that nobody asked for, but there is that bizarre set of folks that somehow enjoy the lag warping mess that is Dark Souls PvP, so someone probably did)

They had one for the PS4 before release too, which i missed spectacularly. It didnt provide any free interwebs like this one tosseth, so not too guilty about standing the ungrateful code up.

Uh, yeah, the series has typically done these in order to make sure things are stable for launch.
It's just that the coincidence of this being announced right after the Switch online service stopped being for free blew my mind. I really didn't see that coming.

They do this every game. I specifically remember being called entitled for being upset about getting an invitation after it ended when DS2 was coming out.

By having them JUST as the Switch's online features stop being free.
And around the point where everyone gets a seven day free trial. *Shrugs* Not really a problem.

It's up and running starting today. I just did a run as a Warrior of Sunlight. Those Gargoyles didn't stand a chance against the Lightning Spear
